This is fucking old.
EDIT: Yup, old and
pants on fire.
You might want to read the article rather than just the Politifact Oregon classification.
Verenice Gutierrez picks up on the subtle language of racism every day.
Take the peanut butter sandwich, a seemingly innocent example a teacher used in a lesson last school year.
"What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?" says Gutierrez, principal at Harvey Scott K-8 School, a diverse school of 500 students in Northeast Portland’s Cully neighborhood.
"Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita."
Seems pretty clear that this esteemed intellectual feels that all sandwiches are racist. If all sandwiches are racist, then by extension the PB&J sandwich, being a subset of all sandwiches, is racist. Or at the very least, mentioning them is racist.
Personally makes sense to me that immigrants who are mentally not up to be exposed to the horrors of sandwiches should stay the fuck out of America, but apparently that is not an option.
Asians don't eat sandwiches, yet it doesn't seem to keep them from destroying white kids in standardized tests/income/education attainment. Perhaps she should stop writing material for the Onion and looks for the causes elsewhere.
LOL +1
You know how you can wear a hoodie into a store and not get followed by an employee? That is white privilege. You know how you can make expensive purchases and not get detained by police while they verify you aren't using a stolen credit card? That is white privilege.
Um, you DO know that the vast majority of blacks wearing hoodies into stores are not followed, some whites wearing hoodies into stores are followed, and the vast majority of blacks making expensive purchases with credit or debit cards are not detained by police, right?
When I was young I worked in my father's auto parts store. There were some people we pointedly followed the entire time they were in our store, because if you did not they would rob you blind. Some were white, some black, some Mexican. (Oddly enough, although we had a fair number of Vietnamese, none of whom ever stole anything. Same with the Indians/Pakastanis and the very few Arabs.) Has more to do with behavior than mere dress or skin color. It just doesn't show up as racist for the whites.
