PAYPAL!!!

Someone hacked into my account yesterday afternoon, and sent $400 to "WebDollar Limited". The account balance was zero, so it got withdrawn from my savings account. The transaction will go through tonite. I called Paypal and filed a fraud charge.

I closed out the savings account, and also the VISA card no. (not checking account)

I also filed w/ my bank regarding about this unauthorize charge.

What should I do? As all traders who trade w/ me should know I am a honest guy, do fast trades, etc...why does this happen to me???

I am out of $400 right now :-🙂|

This is exactly why I refuse to do business with that soon to be bankrupt dot.bomb. A credit card is not good enough for them, they demand access to bank accounts.

Well they do say that you are insured for up to $100,000 for any unauthorized transactions. It might take some time, but you should be able to get your money back.

Stories like these scare the crap outta me... but PayPal is just so damned convenient/easy/fast/cool and I've never had a problem with it... but I dunno. 😕

What did the bank say? Hope eveything works out. 🙂

The way I see it, Paypal provides a good service, but it's not foolproof, and you have to take your own precautions. There always is an element of risk, it's like using eBay, you cant always trust the people you are buying/selling to. If you take the right precautions, you *should* be ok. Of course screw ups do happen, but then again, they happen when you use credit cards too, yet people still use em. No one system is foolproof.

All the precautions in the world will do you no good when they fold up shop.

Aren't they FDIC insured? Up to $100,000, same as banks, no?

See, the bank advised me closing the VISA account no., and will send me a new card VISA 16 digits numbers.

they say that when a savings account w/ a balance zero, if there's an transaction coming through, and no money, it will reject. and that's when I think Paypal will try to charge my VISA card. But hopefully, they did not set up a charge and already have an approval code for it, if yes, I'll be out of $400 and have to file a dispute w/ my bank against it.

I contacted Paypal today through 1-800 number. They sent me an email and asked me to fill out some questionares.

I am so mad right now :| <sighs> Why does this happen to me? WHY??

I gotta feeling that you might be in for a nasty surprise. Just because you change your CC# doesnt mean that Paypal still cant charge you. First of all, about your savings account being at 0, if Paypal tries to withdraw something, and you dont have anything in your account, wont you be overdraft? Even if your bank rejects the withdrawal, I wouldnt be surprised if they charged you some type of fee.

Also, just because your CC# changed doesnt preclude someone from making charges to your account, I dont know exactly how it happens, but I do know its still possible for Paypal to charge you. I'd give it at least a week to pan out and see if you really are successful. Charges dont always show up immediately.

Oh, I forgot I setup a PayPal account a couple of weeks back. I forgot to close it, did it now!

Hope everything works out in the end 🙂

Cheers

<< but for now, the ball is in my court. There is no way they can charge me w/o my authorization.

yee! i am good!

I hope things work out for you, but you dont seem to understand what I am saying. You have ALREADY given them your authorization. Read the Terms of Service thoroughly. Changing your CC# doesnt mean that they cant charge your account. Maybe you got lucky, I hope you did, like I said earlier, I wouldnt be so confident of yourself until at least a week had passed, maybe more.

I finally withdrew me left balance. But now it appears I might have to close my account to secure my savings account is not touched (since I entered the info to transfer funds to my savings). 😱
