PayPal has a REFUND FEE???

Doctor Nyse

Just issued a refund through PayPal and to my great pleasure I saw an additonal fee charged to me in the amount of $1.00

Thanks

I don't care if the fee was 25 cents. They're already taking out a percentage of whatever comes into my account - why would it be necessary to charge a refund fee.

Currently looking for alternatives. I tried Google Checkout which is actually really nice but is nearly impossible to efficiently use without some third-party shopping cart

This is an actual fee or is it their fee that was paid before being refunded (so, the person sends you money, you end up with slightly less due to paypal fee, then you refund it and the person gets the full amount back not less the transfer fee)?

How long has it been since you recieved payment? I'm curious as it could be that they have a fee since its not a recent transaction maybe?

There was an additional charge noted in the payment specifically labeled as 'Refund Fee'

And the order was probably 15 minutes old -- had a problem with the shipping cost

I suggest you read the TOS of a service before you use it next time. PP is in the business of making money.

Personally I don't see this fee as unreasonable...

Unless they've recently changed something, they don't have a refund fee. Who knows, maybe something changed..

yea i have given refunds in the past without a fee, this must be something new

You're supposed to bend over and ask for more, and like it.

These days I prefer postal money orders, sure it's not as fast, but nothing beats cash in hand before shipping.

Odd. Relevant Link.
Question: Is there a fee to use the PayPal Refund Payment link?

Answer : No. There is no charge to send a refund using the Refund Payment link.

According to what I could find in their Help section, you've got 60 days to issue a refund, and the transaction fees are refunded as well. After 60 days, OR if you do not use the Refund Payment link, then Paypal keeps the transaction fees.

Does PayPal still lock innocent accounts? I remember hearing about this frequently years back, but never anymore. The posts about this on paypalsucks.com are from 2003.

It's funny how if you read the definition you linked, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with this situation.

I think this one is more applicable:
