If it's any consolation, aren't you only defrauded of the iPhone?

So I got my first ever chargeback on Paypal.

Sold an iPhone to someone on eBay. They paid. I shipped.

Before the iPhone arrived to it's destination, I got notified that the credit card company issued a chargeback against me. The reason is "Unauthorized Payment".

So the first thing that comes to my mind right now, is that someones credit card was stolen and used to buy my iPhone.

So the question is, am I screwed?

When you ship it, always always always ship using a shipper that will allow you to call and retrieve the box before delivery. The previous company I was working for used UPS and we'd get fraudulent orders like this once in a while. We'd just call UPS and have them stop shipment and return the package to us.

If you're lucky, you can do this.

I'm not sure what other advice to give, but hopefully you have another option.

No Nik, it looks like I'm f'ed.

And I figured out it's my fault actually, I made a n00b mistake.

I shipped to the address the "buyer" sent to me via eBay message.

This address of course is not the actual verified PayPal address, so it turns out I'm not covered with Seller Protection because of this.

Well, I learned my lesson. And it only cost me about the price of a course at Yale.

I'll also use all the tips I have learned from this thread in the future.

Thanks everyone.

That is a bunch of crap. Can't they just get the guy at the address it was shipped to? Mail fraud? something?

Definitely a noob mistake. I'd berate you, but it seems like you don't need it lol

ALWAYS ship to confirmed address only. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

I was wondering the same thing, how could he possibly be out the money and the phone. Paypal just took back the money he got, so he is just out the phone

I got screwed by PayPal, too. Thankfully, I was able to recall the shipment. After the guy realized I recalled the shipment, he said that I was a fraudulent seller and put in another complaint against me.

Fuck, PayPal is set up to favor the criminals and the crooks. How the hell did that happen.

The other thing you can do (if it is possible) is to put a lock on the iphone by calling apple/att and reporting it stolen, thus rendering the device a brick.

Paypal is a no man's land. Their gaurantees mean nothing. I and many others got burned buying stuff from a guy who took the money and ran off. We disputed and it was found in our favor but since his bank account was cleared we were screwed. Except in my case I complained to my credit card company (thank God I didn't use a paypal balance) and they gave me the money and took it back from Paypal. Eat it PP you bitches!

paypal is good for one thing... buying.

i would never use it as a form of payment if i were selling something...

OP, post up the address you mailed it to, maybe we can find more info about the scammer and make his/her life hell.
