I went to subway today and paid with credit card. The cashier just gave me the receipt and told me I don't need to sign it. I hope only subway dose this and no one else switches to this. Anyone else experiences this. Are they using the cc as atm if not how are they getting away with out getting my signature. Its not one of those atm/cc but only a cc

Ylen13, as much as I would like that convenience, I agree, I hope this is not the future of paying by credit cards :(

I've rarely put in the 3 digits for online purchases and i've NEVER had to put in a zip to buy gas at the pump...

Most of the places online, require that code at the back of your credit card, as for gas stations, I don't use a card, just SpeedPass for me notfred :)

I would rather do away with the signature... they are meaningless and only BB actually checks them.

If you mean BestBuy, then I disagree as they haven't checked my signature correctly yet :(

I know walgreens does this as well if you are buying prescriptions, and the total is under $50.

I don't sign my cards. I put "DEMAND ID" on the back. If I am in a restaurant and I am not asked for my ID, they get no tip.

Note: Before you read the below and start telling me how you dont have to pay for it if someone steals your card: All the cards i have include a limited liability clause, but that is NOT related to the reciept or the back of the card, its a seperate service that covers the card period.

A friend of mine worked at a shell station here. At the end of the week they take all the reciepts and destroy them. Its in the same boat as signing the back of your card, it makes people feel warm and fuzzy about using it, but doesn't really do anything. Call your bank up sometime and ask them if you have to pay the bill if someone uses it and forges the slip. Or if you dont sign the back of the card and the walmart person takes the card anyway if you have to pay the bill.

Whenever i have to sign a slip i scribble the first letter of my first name and then some wavy lines and the first letter of my last name and some wavy lines.

I like the 3 digit thing personaly, i wish everyone did it, there is a deli in town (not sure if it was the deli or the subway but it was one of the other for sure) that puts your entire CC number on the reciept. I have often thought if someone found it they could charge a bunch of online services to my card. Using the 3 digit code that never shows up on anything makes it harder to do anything without actualy having the physical card.

At least most places wont ship items anywhere but the addy listed for the card, this IMO is the best protection against fraud i can think of using.

Edit: Closed italics tag.

i used to do this as well. however, one lady who claimed she was working a night job (her regular job was a police officer) told me this was illegal to do and when you did this you voided your CC. while typically people had asked for my ID in the past, i just assumed that she wouldn't be making that sh|t up. so atleast in Virginia it's illegal to not 'sign' the back of your card.

LOL, who is going to enforce that? The credit card company? I don't think so, they want your business if you sign the card or not.

I do it to protect myself the best I can. Yes I am covered if someone wants to use my card but do I want that hassle? No. I do simple things to try and prevent it. That is like leaving my front door wide open for someone to steal all my stuff. Yes my insurance will cover it but who wants that type of hassle.

You really protected yourself well. When they "demand ID", they will definitely be sure it is you holding the ID, especially since fake IDs are so difficult to come by. Granted, a signature is not perfect protection either but at least it takes a bit more effort to fake someone else's signature than to go to any college campus and find someone willing to make you a fake ID for $10 that is 90% accurate.

Ditto. Weirded me out when it first happened. In one way this makes sense, how else would you know to pick up someone else's prescription? And why would you pay for it.

But the subway thing is weird. Is there a minimum you need to pay for the subs to use the credit card. Usually when I go to subway my total is like $4.

uhm, what? Going through the trouble of getting a fake id (which is no doubt a very serious federal crime) is easier than just scribbling something that looks like someone else's signature?
