$100 bucks a month is as much as I'm willing to pay (when I was a kid I mowed lawns for 5 to 10 bucks but times have changed).
The professional mainentance company's want WAY more. This guy would do it for less, but I know he's been doing a good job for my direct neighbors, and I happen to be able to pay him for the time being (hell I may lose my job soon and have to do it myself again).

I'm just thinking about helping someone out that needs the work and helping myself out at the same time. He would obviously do it for less (like 30- 40 bucks a visit). I just want to be fair without over or under paying him. But also want to pay him as well as I can and yes, somewhat for a "he really needs it" attitude, but he's also willing to work for it, so that doesn't bother me.

I pay $320 a month for my landscaping. They basically come out once a week to cut my yard/bush/trim/etc. My house sits on 1/2 acre.

I would do it myself but I don't have the time and my time is worth more.

I'm in the same boat as you. I just moved into a house and don't really have time in the short term to do yard work.

The lot is 90 X 130, I pay $22/wk. for cutting and edging/trimming.

good to hear that.

I also left out the fact that I'm a divorced dad, and every other weekend I have my daughter, the only weekends I am available for yard work are the weekends I'm off and don;'t have my kid.
I really don't mind doing yard work.. just don't have the time (and would feel bad about low-bidding him even though he'd do it for less)....

Thats how I feel about it... I actually feel bad turning him down this time since I wanted to speak to the other neighbors first. But it turns out he does a great job and busts his ass (plus it's hot and humid here)....
I've just never had anyone else do it for me, but been considering it for a bit....

Damn. The guy stole from both my neighbors. This is after they both recommended him to me. (Read updated OP)

Try to be a nice guy and sometimes you still get burned :(

That sucks.

I pay my 9 year old five or six bucks to mow (we're talking about a couple acres, heh.)

I just hate the situation.

Here is a guy that has been mowing lawns in the neighborhood for a while.

Knocks on my door, I say next time around and check up on him with the other neighbors.
Neighbors give great recommendation
Then he steals a mower and weed-eater from neighbors.

oh well, glad I did my research. I don't mind mowing my lawn, just figured I could help out a guy in need while he worked for it.... turns out I just gotta keep my shed locked...
