I don't mind doing it myself, but have been limited on time lately...

I have 1/3rd of an acre and know a guy that really needs the work.
I can afford it, and really just want to pay this guy for being willing to come over and work (and he really needs the money also). He will mow the yard, trim the shrubs and do edging.

I'm willing to pay 50 bucks each visit (no more than twice a month).
What do you think?
I'd really just be doing it to help the guy out, but I like the fact of not doing the lawn every other week....

opinions?

UPDATE: This guy has been mowing both of my neighbors lawns for a while with no problems. Then last time he stole the mower from one of them and the weed-eater from the other. Glad I waited now.

Capture an illegal immigrant, get him to cut your grass and kiss your house goodbye.

$50 does seem a little high. I'd say $35, should only take 1.5hrs if he uses your equipment.

I'm seriously considering paying someone to mow my lawn. Mowing lawns and yardwork suck. Especially when you're allergic to grass and weeds and sneeze and have a runny nose for 2 hours after doing it everytime....

That and I figure if I'm worth 150 dollars an hour it's well worth it to pay a kid 15 bucks every 2 weeks to do it.

My equipment and gas, yes. I typically mow every other week (even though it may need it more frequently). I'm willing to give him 50 bucks twice a month (assuming it's up to par). He does the neighbors lawn for 30 bucks with no edging, but I don't mind paying a bit more if he does a better job for me :)
Also he's a legitimate dude, unemployed, trying to feed his family. I feel the money would be well spent on him directly rather than paying a company.

Just looking for feedback.....

50 bucks for 1/3 acre!?

Our neighbor cut ours - 2.43 overgrown acres for 75 bucks..

Edit: If you can afford it, go for it - it's never a bad idea to help a guy who needs helping.

I probably should cut it that frequently, just not motivated enough or willing to pay for it :)

Go for it.

Definately.

I personally enjoy mowing my lawn, I find it satisfactory. I should note I don't a have a very big yard, not sure of the acreage, generally will take me close to 45 minutes to get the whole job done.

I think it's a fair price for the job, maybe a few bucks more than you'd have to spend.
I figured you were throwing a couple extra bucks out because he needs it and it's worth it to you.
He's doing the whole package, too. You won't have to stop neffing all month. :)

Get busy with the misses and produce a child.

At least, that's what my parent's did.

Dad: Don't you know why we had you? Cause I got tired of mowing the lawn.
Me: :(

If you don't mind spending the money and you want to help this guy out I see no reason you should not do so. I personally cut my own lawn at home and also the one at my lake house...which takes me half a day...but I enjoy that kind of work and find it a nice way to relax. If I do not have time then I will pay someone to do it for me but I only hire neighborhood kids for the task when needed. I will not support a lawn service that is staffed by illegal immigrants. Remeber when we were kids and cut lawns for extra cash? It would be nice if the kids had this option but all the illegals have those jobs so I will not support them....maybe they all are not illegal but that is beyond the point...mowing lawns should be a job for kids to make money doing.
