She told the truth because she was in deposition. Those are sworn statements, perjury and all that jazz applies.

And its likely the plaintiffs had witnesses that could have contradicted her if she had lied. I bet the last thing her and her brother want are former employees coming out of the woodwork.

No, because the her using the N word was 30 years ago, and the black staff thing was only in her mind. There was no one else that could have contradicted her statements.

So no one here has not even ONCE in their life, ever spoke the N word or some other derogatory word. Not a single time for any reason at all. If you have then you have no right to judge her.

This is pretty sad actually.

There should be a limit how political correctness is defined and used especially for political correctness or seriousness for a media as fickle as the internet or thoughts or secondary incriminations.

The internet or media is just another tool to control a mob, just maybe a more sophisticated tool.

All of us will someday regret an irrational mobocracy.

This story is ridiculous. She admits using the N word sometime in her life, and is dropped from the Food Network, and then makes a couple of videos where she apologizes?

She fucked it up though, by apologizing in videos, because I'd sue the hell out of the Food Network. I'd grill every single FN employee if they've ever said the words - i love you, beloved patriot, beautiful ray of sunshine, wop, and about 100 other words probably every person on the Earth has used, even if it was only used when they were a child and didn't know better.

She could've gotten millions out of this, but now she looks guilty of something by apologizing. A simple 'when I didn't know better, I used those words'.

How can she sue FN when she is the one being sued by a former employee for racial incidents? That was the point of the disposition.

She does not have a case against FN and they had every right to fight her per their policy against racism and racial discrimination.

I'll miss Paula's show but she dug her own grave and then bellyflopped right into it.

They didn't fire her.

They just aren't renewing her contract which just so happens to run out this month. It is obvious FN was playing the waiting game on the civil suit before to decide whether or not offer her a new contract.

I don't see why people don't give Paula Dean the benefit of the doubt when she says she has nothing against n**gers.

It is the entirety of her deposition that doomed her, not saying ****** 30 years ago.

There is no evidence she ever discriminated at all. People are taking her statements about something that happen decades ago and twisting it.

1. She said she never knew of her brother showing porn to others at work, who didn't want to see it, and that no one was in the room who didn't want to be in the room and look as well.

2. She condemns anyone who uses the N word in his deposition, and said she was wrong to use it 30 years ago.

3. She said it didn't mater the color of one skins, and she never wanted to hire anyone based on race.

1. Fucking doesn't matter. Showing porn in business environment is 100% sexual harassment. PERIOD. She should have removed her brother from day to day operations the moment she found out he was showing porn at the restaurant. Instead her attitude is boys will be boys.

2. Yep but then you have her brother was saying ******* in front of people at their family business, and that was within the last 5-6 years. Again, she took no action to resolve this problem.

3. See above. Her words are meaningless because they are backed up by inaction. Also see her statements on racial jokes, again instead of condemning the condemable, at the very minimum in the context of a work environment involving superiors telling racial jokes to subordinates, she said she doesn't know what offends people.

Is she taking the heat for stuff her brother did? Yep, but again that is because they are business partners and she had the power to take corrective actions.

<insert 'not sure if serious' meme image here>

Hopefully you're joking, but it's not very obvious if you are. If so, you can ignore what I'm about to write.

If you're not joking, then here's a newsflash: THE WORD N**GER IS AN OFFENSIVE TERM. It hails back to the days when black people were considered subhuman and so therefore could be bought, sold and abused.

Some people on this thread have said things like "you're a liar if you're white and have never used the n-word, and therefore a hypocrite if you're denouncing others who have"... well, seriously: I've never used the n-word unless in a discussion about racism or quoting Blazing Saddles. I don't remember anyone I know using it outside of those circumstances either.

Rest assured...;)

I think it's 'possible' some white people in the south are ignorant in using the term 'ni**ger' in reference to blacks and not really using it to be consciously derogatory. This used to be THE term for blacks for so many people and so many generations. But that certainly could not include someone as plugged and commercialized as Paula Dean.

Furthermore, someone who employs people should have a greater awareness of how to speak to people as well as what is and isn't socially acceptable. Even more so when that business is a service industry type.

Her Obama 'joke' certainly shows that her opinions haven't evolved very much lately. I'm surprised that anyone here thinks that her apologies are in any way sincere (apart from not wanting to lose revenue of course, as someone already pointed out).

I haven't read this whole thread but apparently her first apology sounded so insincere, tmz basically laughed at it. Within a couple hours, she redid it in an effort to sound more sincere.

YAROSWP

Yet Another Racist Old Southern White Person

If this is what it takes to get her off the air, kudos. She's a terrible, terrible "role model" for home cooks.

Why is she apologizing? For being who she is?

Do any of these apologies have any meaning?

Quoted directly from her fat tan racist mouth: "You know, it’s funny, I think, I feel like the south is almost less prejudiced because black people played such an integral part in our lives that they were like our family. And we didn’t see ourselves as being prejudiced."

"I have a young man in my life, his name is Hollis Johnson. Come out here Hollis, we can’t see you standin’ against that dark board."

Now lookey here! I dun kissed me a black fellow. I ain’t no racist!

It always cracks me up when white people try to explain how they aren't racists. I've yet to see a white person do this successfully.
