Does anyone else think that Roy could possibly see this happen and decide not to retire, and win 1 last cup and go out on top?

I hope not, but it is possible. Maybe that is why Kariya signed for so little.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Well, that and he wants to win a cup.

I am still heartbroken about Fedorov. :(

Maybe after seeing nobody else will pay him 10mil, he'll reconsider Detroit. We HAVE to sign some sort of offensive player...I would prefer Fedorov but if they don't get a Ray Whitney, Joe Nieuwendyk, Todd Marchant, SOMEONE... we are in deep sh!t.

Supposedly Colorado is trying to sign Felix Potvin too.

I agree that it would be difficult to see Fedorov go, but I still think he is staying in Detroit.

All his agent cares about is $$$. The truth is that he thinks Fedorov is going to get more than $10 million a year from another team. Once he figures out that he won't, he will start telling Fedorov that Detroit is where he should be.

And the Avs can have Potvin. :D

I would puke if anyone get 10 million.

The avs certainly got an amazing deal. I hate Pat Quinn, I'm glad he wont be holding the GM spot anymore.

Yeah, I know. :D But I have to hate on the Avalanche.

I think that they would definitely be considered one of the favorites if they can land a big-time goalie, but I don't think Potvin is going to be that guy.

I think with the defense they already have in place (assuming they stay healthy) a mediocre goalie is all they need.

Their defense is good, but it was only marginally better than the Wings last year. And the Wings D just got drastically better with the addition of Hatcher.

I don't think they are done spending money yet. And with the forwards they have, I would say they can afford to give up 2-3 goals a game. ;)

Heheh.. That is true, as long as they don't run into the Wild in the playoffs again.

This is not right. Not right at all.
Damn cheap Disney... can't spring a few more bucks to keep Kariya and Selanne together when they had the chance....
Then again it seems Kariya was rather demanding of his $10 option...

WWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(had to get it out...)

*End Rant*

Dammit!!! We were supposed to get him! (We begin the NJ Devils) DAMMIT!
"You go to hell! You go to hell and you die!!"

This is huge news though... looks like the power Western conference is getting even more glutted. Kariya rules... my fav player but I can't see him as an Avs... my gawd I HATE the Avs.

better than anything else the avs have at this point though. Perhaps if they can get their hands on Theodore, assuming he doesn't end up with criminal charges from this whole Hell's Angels loan sharking thing going on.

Fedorov isn't all about the money, sure he wants a lot, but mostly he wants to be the main star on that team. He was always over shawdowed in detroit by steve yzerman.

Red wings wouldn't send anything to their rivals unless it was a bomb.

That's what Derian Hatcher was predicting.

Kariya's contract is probably incentive laden and/or he's getting a huge signing bonus.

Or he'll take the pay cut for one year, probably win a championship, and go on to a different team making the same money he did last year.

yes........ and play with his best buddy Selanne :D since he is getting 1.2 million which is far less then the leauge average he will still be a unrestircted free agent next year but they still have to figure out the Collective bargining agreement.

Cheers,

Pretty much like Roy isn't going to return. He's done. He's the top goalie, what more does he need to prove?

Like I said before, I hope they land a good goalie to replace him.

CuJo to the Avs will never happen.

Detroit signed Hatcher... WOOHOO!!!

Avs signed Selanne... Doh!

Avs signed Kariya, too... WTF?

Kariya signed for 1.2mil... WTF???

----------------------------------------------------

Fedorov is done in Detroit. There is no room for him, after signing Hatcher. The owner has put down a mandate that they will not spend more this year, than they did last year, and they still haven't signed Stevie Y.

But that's fine. With Hull, Shanny, a healthy Yzerman, the phenoms Zetterburg and Datsuyk... The Wings don't need him. I would be very surprised if he gets more than $50mil from another team, though.
