putting aside all the GGG drama because i'm enjoying my league starter and i want to share with you what i've found.

as i said previously, i wanted to try the new Bitterdream unique scepter. it is an instant 9-link for cold skills at level 32! (Freezing Pulse, Winter Orb, Blade Vortex with Hrimsorrow gloves, etc') and it's been a BLAST! literally! i'm one-shotting everything in acts. not following any guide, just winging it for now.

this is the SMOOTHEST league starter i've ever played and only 3C mandatory unique to get it going! (early league price). i made an Occultist, obviously, for all the Cold Damage ascendencies. POB gave me over 50K damage on the 9-link Winter Orb at level 40 and the channeling cost was only 15 mana. completely nuts and i'm going to adopt this strategy for every league from now on.

BUT THE BEST PART IS....

league starting with a LOW LIFE build! crazy, right?? how can i do it, you may ask? easy. I don't need a 6-linked chest! the only link i need is my 9 link scepter.
so i saved up some Chaos through acts and bought a decently rolled 2-socket Shavronnes Wrappings. aahhh so sweet!! specced into Pain Attunement, reserved Discipline on life, and BAM! 30% more damage.
Now steadily growing my ES pool and leech, going to use Viridi's Veil with a blue ES ring to become hexproof
there is a unique shield called "Light of Lunaris" which gives you added cold damage to spells, spell crit%, increased Crit Multi, and decent ES but its too expensive for me at the moment (around 30C), currently using Maligaro's gloves for the 300% crit Multi, and Bated Breath. i still have a lot of gearing to do and my goal is to reach the 1mil DPS mark.

since i'm constantly generating frenzy charges, another trick i'm going to use is Rotgut unique Flask with "Used When Full" trigger. i get full frenzy charges whenever i shatter a frozen enemy (which is...all the time) and Rotgut has a very long move speed+onslaught uptime by consuming my frenzy charges.

another ascendency to consider for this set-up is Raider because of the frenzy charges, i will only have 4 with anointment, unless i get a Badge of the Brotherhood then i could have 7 (same as power charges) but its a waste to use this amulet just for 1 stat line...

also, Delving is a breeze with Winter Orb which is a nice bonus in my opinion.

i encourage you all to try it out too! crazy fun :p

I actually thought about doing something like this as well, but just too a seismic trap build and am running with it. I haven't even hit maps yet - just playing sparingly when the time/desire to do so comes along.

I got lucky and got a 8 socket increased chaos damage cluster jewel early on. I listed it for 12C and got instant msgs on it. What floored me was one guy offered 1E for it and I was like "no... it's not worth that much" and he responded that 1E was currently ~12C. I was floored. Never seen exalts that cheap. Sold it. Got my 6L chest and have been on my way ever since.

The build is ok. It's a little too "involved" for me. I will have to adjust so some spells/etc are autocast though I don't have to bother yet

This league does suck.

Been splitting time between Phox's RF Inq build and another LS Raider build. It's fine, but loot is definitely on the low side and the random mob that takes 3 minutes to kill is somewhat annoying.

Yea, GGG re-balanced the currency. They wanted people to use exalts instead of just using them as currency. Divine orb is now 170c, so it now replaces exalts.

I'm also trying RF this league. Got a late start but I think that was for the best. Need to build up my regen before switching to RF, guide says around level 28.

The updated Springleaf shield with a 50 life regen roll allows you to start RF pretty early now

Got to maps last night. Why is playing the storyline always ALWAYS so horrible? I say it every league but they need to figure out a way (even if it's to pay) to just skip the damned storyline.

Still need to really rework my character. Got my resists in place for now. Doing a pile of damage, but there's a lot more in the tank, that's for sure.

Hopefully when the PoE 2 patch comes out there'll be an option. I know it supposed to be your choice of which to play, so maybe there'll be a skip entirely option that puts you at 65 or something.

I had fun the in the mini-league where you just did delve. It was a fun way to level up. Maybe let you pick the different leagues to level in and then unlock Acts according to your level.

I just started into Delve this morning. I always find it fun.

Question: on the map stash tab, there's the little "coins" or whatever next to each map slot now. What's that about?
I will be honest too, I'm having a hell of a time figuring out the POB/skills/items for my build.

Is sustaining maps a problem this league with the loot drop rate? Honestly, I've never had such issues getting even half the yellows completed. Hell I'm still missing some whites I think. And even my duplicates are SUPER low in quantity. They can mess around with loot and currency, but JUST as the made the Atlas great and fun, it's jacked up again?!

I'm working through yellows at the moment and have been using Kirac missions/rerolls to help with sustain, hasn't been too bad yet.

Yeah that's how I've gotten a lot of mine too. Different than having the map "in hand" though.
I put all my Atlas points into Kirac and map drops too. Still is pretty damned dry.

In the map stash tab, what's the little graphic showing stacks of coins on each map slot?

Might be the Maven eye that turns purple when she witnesses a boss fight?

I think a build like this would be not that expensive and get you down well before 600 depth. https://pastebin.com/G4NNkxE4

This isn't a traditional RF build so you should follow a regular RF inquisitor build guide and then swap into this one when you get most of the gear. By the start of week 2 most of the items in this build are going to be pretty cheap. It has decent defenses and massive regen when standing still.
I've gotten over to Breath of Flames and was wondering Heart of Flame was worthwhile since I'm near. I'm guessing Fire Damage won't help boost burning damage but it seems RF is fire damage.

I tried Kalandra but league mechanic sucks, gear and currency drops are terrible, and there's nothing good for sale so I'm done with this league after just a few hours.

The mechanic sucks. I do it VERY sparingly.
My build finally "took off" and I had a nice 2D drop so I have some money spend now.
Still having a hard till keeping flush in maps, but its forcing me to do some Delve and even Heist whcih is a nice change of pace.

I'm not LOVING it, but it hasn't been the end of the world like a lot of people are proclaiming - maybe at true end-game stuff and gear and crafting etc. But that's not where I live.

Finished up with the league. My impressions so far:

* Loot changes - The global I sit in is full of more advanced players. The kinds that will farm HH, Mageblood, mirrors, etc. Their impressions seem to be that the loot changes are really hurting you when you juice up your maps. Which means scarabs, sextants, deli and whatnot. These are the players who generally will have 2 or 3 fully outfitted builds in a league. Impressions of myself and others in the channel who just alch and go on T16 maps is that it doesn't feel any different. I made about the same currency I usually do before I quit.

* League mechanic - Personally I found it boring as the layout was essentially always the same, the navigation through all the objects was terrible and the loot drops were mostly non-existent. If you run T3/T4 tiles (3 prong silver and 4 prong gold) and you put those in difficulty 6+ then the rewards get a lot better. But at the same time the difficulty of those tiles for a lot of players isn't worth it.

* Divine orb and Unique changes - Terrible. They wanted to make uniques more unique and valuable so they cut the drop rate and reworked some of them. Any of the uniques they actually made a lot better...they increased the tier and dramatically cut their drop rate. So now you have a good unique but a lot of casuals will never get to use it. They did that to every single one of the stand out uniques that were reworked. They showed off all the new Grand Spectrum gems but made them lab only drops and somewhat rare so again...casual players can't even use them. The divine orb changes make it so the casual up even through the average player won't ever be able to re-roll item ranges. If you have an item that drops with a large range it doesn't make financial sense to re-work it. Now you have exalts that are worthless which if used give a widely random result and divines are worth the most but as a currency gave a known result within a specific range. It's just a giant RNG layer added to everything

One tip for you guys is that the Gift to the Goddes(lvl 83 uber uber lab offering) was always decent money with old Harvest. It usually sat at around 60c. Now that you can't get it from harvest and there is a challenge this league for it the offering is around 190-200c. There is an Atlas passive cluster that gives you a 20% chance to turn a regular trial into an improved trial that drops one of the upgraded offerings. The small nodes increase the chance of seeing a trial. There doesn't seem to be any weighting on the offerings so you have a 1/3 chance of making 190c if you get an improved trial. The other offerings are worth 10c and 20c each so still not bad. Also, the trial entrance itself tells you if it's improved so you don't have to run every trial and hope. The swirling circle will be a shining gold color instead of the normal look.

Other casual tip is that the new Grand Spectrum jewels drop in all labs. They are part of the lab loot table so they can drop from the main chests at the end, Izaro or any other chest/pot/breakable in labs. Some people have had luck just spamming normal labs and getting a jewel every hour or so.

@rstrohkirch - I like your assessment of loot drops and I generally feel the same way. I'm not some uber--player and pretty much just alch and go (sometimes vaal and usually will toss in some random scarabs I have laying around) but the currency and the loot itself still seems normal to me. I do feel like the market for items to outright purchase seems a little tighter, but that probably has to do with the high end not being able to run juiced maps and/or craft as easily. But still, entirely attainable gear - at least for my build. I had a Enhance gem drop, turned around and sold it for 2D and then bought my 6L Tinkerskin for 2D. I've had a few other 20C+ drops and have been able to fill in what I need here and there.

Still the best advice I was ever given by my POE Sherpa was to put all your low-end currency on the market. You can't respond quick enough to the msgs (I sell low - my time is worth the "loss"). Jewelers, fusings, Alts etc all add up and get usable currency quickly.

And yes, the league mechanic sucks rocks. I pass it by 90% of the time. Boring as hell and generally speaking I don't like any mechanic that takes you out of the flow of the map. Hell I used to hate Zana maps within maps.

I still feel map drops are hurting though. I'm still having trouble sustaining reds. Maybe my Atlas is messed up, but I don't think so.

For the league mechanic, you should still try and build out the tiles so you hit high difficulty levels. Then place gold tier items on them simply because they're worth something...even 20c a tablet. The reflection of paradise and reflection of kalandra are all worth a lot. So if you get one of those that pops up try and put it on the furthest tile you have.

On the map drop issue did you put points into the +% chance for a higher tier map? I think it's around 12 points or so to get 100% chance.

This weekend I got the RF build far enough to actually put of RF. At first I was at half health since I needed the extra regen from the shield. After adding some levels to Vitiality and some gear upgrades, I'm running positive. I also have my fire resistance max at 81%. I picked up a Vaal RF but it doesn't seem worthwhile. Just up to Act 7 currently. If anyone runs nto a 5 link chest armor with some life regen, I would be interested. I'm waiting for maps to actually buy something.

If you find something (or send a link) let me know. I can give you currency you need.
Vaal RF is used when you're facing bosses. Trigger it for big boost.
