The guy in our guild who went essence drain/contagion was an easy 10 levels above everyone else after the first day.

I switched through numerous melee skills and ended up going back to Ngamhu's Cyclone. It's sad that they worked so much on melee skills and the best one by far is still cyclone.

Yeah I sort of just jumped into the ED build without even really understanding it. Just plowed through and lvl'ed as much as I could. Still have to figure out the mechanics of it all etc.

On a related note, whats the minimum GPU you guys recommend for this game? I'm considering buying and popping into my PC at work so I can play a little here and there over lunch. But I do not want to spend all that much money...

You can play on a 1050 or equivalent with settings turned down.

I'm still running EQ right now. I enjoy playing different builds in this game even though they may not be as good as the last. So it definitely doesn't have to be a raising scale of damage every league. With that said, melee will never be as good as ranged in this game. They would have to do some pretty major nerfs to ranged spell/attack builds for melee to ever be on par.

Oh don't get me wrong... The melee changes or at least the changes to how the engine works are amazing. Actually the only real issue I had was that I absolutely hate the new Multistrike. It's pretty much ruined any fast attacking playstyle for me. I did a lot of my leveling with the Bladestorm skill and it was playable. But cyclone is better.

I guess my point was just that Cyclone has been at the top of the melee skills for so long. I was hoping there would be a better option.

I'm still running a 970 @1440p and it runs it at max settings fine, but I've tuned a few things down to help with those inevitable FPS drops. I'd guess a 1060 or 1050 would be ideal. Otherwise the game doesn't require too much. I can't speak from experience as to the AMD side of things, but I'd imagine a 570 would be sufficient.

So, overall I like this league. I enjoy the mechanic, some of the changes feel good and overall the EQ build is working out. With the speed nerfs to all the melee skills I've found skills feel better with a faster weapon even if it gives up a little bit of damage. For me that was 5% less daamge in exchange for .5aps. Which also had a big benefit to leap slam.

Now though, I have an observation. A few leagues back they got rid of stat sticks. I understand why they did it but they didn't do anything to offset the hit to melee when they did this. With those sticks you had around 4 to 5 good skills throwing up very nice damage numbers. So a few leagues go by with melee being even worse than it was before and still just having a few decent skills like Molten Strike. Now we have this league where they spent all this time and effort to re-balance melee but the overall selection of good skills and their damage numbers really aren't much different than they were with stat sticks. A lot of skills got roughly a 10-15% damage bump which still isn't as good as what a well rolled stat stick got you. Overall I find this a bit funny. They could have just gave all melee skills across the board 15% more attack speed and probably ended up exactly where we are now.

Attack speed plays well into survivability. The faster your swing follows through, the faster you can clutch GTFO of the way. Finding the right amount for your level of play style and build is important.

It's funny you mentioning the rollercoaster of stat sticks in the game, since I'm playing an Ice Nova CWC Cyclone Scion and both of my weapons are stat sticks, essentially.

I'm also enjoying this league. Very simple, but very enjoyable addition to the league elements that are already in the game. They have this game very well flushed out now with a lot of angles to play and build for in particular and not really get bored.

So I haven't played since War of the Atlas and came back and boy oh boy lots of changes. Any vets can answer these?

Is there any point to leveling up the new Masters. I'm sure Delve and Incursion had there own gear drops but is there any point now?

Is there any currency discount like the old masters gave? I miss my fusings from Vorici and need Alchs like crazy for mapping.

Any good way of keeping yourself in red maps?

Master leveling is no longer a thing. Crafting recipes are found throughout the game and unlocked that way, instead of leveling those masters. The crafting bench (including the old ones) now encompass all mods.

Delve is fantastic for getting experience and loot. Incursions aren't great for experience, but okay for loot. Essentially - at end game - you run maps, fill your sulphur for Delve, build up your temple incursions, then run those once you're full or have the temple unlocked. They synergize with each other since you'll tend to get a lot of maps from delving once you're into level 70+ or so.

Sadly, the bonus currency exchanges from the masters were done away with in 3.5.0. I could be mistaken, but I think a lot of the game was reworked to drop more currencies in general (and 6 socketed items for jeweler's) and the base tier currency exchanges from any vendor was made to be a little more rewarding.

What's going on with trading. I mean it's always sucked but this league it seems worse than average. No one responds and 9/10 who do say it's sold. Also the official trade site seems to be down, I'm currently using poe.trade.

I've finally made it to maps. Took me 2 hours!!! to buy some decent gear. And I wasn't even bothering to message the people with cheapest options.

Made a new character under this league just to check it out and oh my gawd are my attacks slow. The game also takes quite awhile to load up for me now and I got a few disconnects the other day when I played. Probably just a recent influx of like-minded individuals connecting to servers but I don't remember having issues before. Not sure if I'll actually progress with the new character but I wanted to see what they've been doing with the game.

I've had quite a few more disconnects and crashes than usual. The crashes are particularly fun, since there's no error at all and it'll just send me straight back to desktop while I'm in the middle of something (great for labyrinth). They somewhat rushed out the league update and have been patching improvements/fixes since then. It has become somewhat more reliable now.

Do you know if latency/loss is your problem or the game's engine? Check which gateway you're connected to. You may want to test the other gateways with lower ping times and see if they have less loss. I've had to contest with high loss from Dallas and WDC at times and even played connecting to Sao Paulo's gateway because it had no loss, but higher latency. Also, check to make sure lock-step is enabled as it helps.

From today's patch notes:

Fixed a bug where the first hit with an attack against a monster would almost always miss if you did not have a 100% chance to hit.
Thank god, I've had 98/96 main/off accuracy and I'm missing way more than I should be, even against white mobs. But there has to be more to the bug though, since I'll keep missing and missing until I start using Leap slam a few times and then finally I start doing damage.

Playing standard this league (sick of leveling gems) with the goal of making a decent delver. The other day when I was on a notice came up that someone had just reached delve level 12,000.

I have a bit of catching up to do.

I've been slowly plodding along this league. I do really love the mechanic thus far. It's as good as breech etc were.
I've been using this ED build; https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1625254
I tend to prefer builds that hand-hold a bit more and tell you "exactly" what you need though... I can't figure out what weapon(s) besides the 2x lifesprigs I've been using since leveling. I'm about to hit maps and figure it's time to start getting "right" gear.

Go to the last few pages of the the build to get a better idea. You want a wand with a high Non-alignment chaos damage over time, chaos damage, cast speed, damage over time. A lot of them are also using a multi-modded +1 socketed gems bow.

Got quite a bit of PoE playtime over the two days after taking a week off and finally hit level 90 and red maps. Planning to upgrade my shitty gear a bit but Cyclone gear is so expensive... knew this going in though since this is basically cyclone league almost.

Edit: How do I get three red sockets onto a Jewelled Foil one handed sword? I knew how to do it with the old Vorici method but don't know the new method (if there is a way still)...

Crafting bench should have the recipe. If you don't have it yet, it'll say where/how to unlock it.

Next league announced:
https://www.pathofexile.com/blight

Basically taking some Tower Defense it looks like.
I like totems!

There was a quick mention in the earlier trailer about "new key row" so hopefully they are allowing more actionable key bindings.
Also the new master missions management looks nice to say the least.

Necro, poison assassin and mines saboteur all updated.

Interesting.

I like the queuing of master missions. I'll probably player the miner since I enjoy trapper. A lot of people thought this league would be a ranged league re-work but guess not.

Yeah. I liked trapper when I played it too. Still fairly "passive" like totems, but not quite as "old-man-ish" :)
I will keep an eye on build etc as it gets closer...
