The league that comes out in December always has this problem. I'm just not sure why they chose to release such large content in this particular period. It should either be the one before or after it.
In regards to the atlas, I think once people get use to it the average player person will like it. It offsets the largest complaint which was difficulty sustaining maps at high tiers. That's no longer a problem with the new system. But what it did for the more experienced player is that it pushed out how long it takes to get to end game, pushed up the prices on end game gear from shaper/elder/ue and added more rng to progress through the last boss. In the old system, once you pushed through UE you could easily repeat the process very quickly over and over again. It just cost currency to do so. Now they're is another rng layer attached in getting the conquerors to spawn.
Oh I quite like the end game atlas now. Took me a while to figure it out (I still am confused as times) Just that Sirus battle is brutal. I don't even think I will bother to try it again.
I have a handful of watchstones to still get as well.
Of course the Metamoprh stuff is great too - makes each map that much more fun and sort of pushes you to clear it or at least the bulk of it.
