and we'll continue to repeat it as long as Democrats are (D) Democrats. If you think a political wiki page is going to magically turn a Democrat into something else you'd be wrong.

Ronnie & Strom did that 30 years ago. As LBJ offered when he signed one of the civil rights acts, Dems lost the South for a generation. He was only mistaken in the sense that he saw it as a single generation.

The truth is that a single wiki page won't turn conservatives into something they're not- they'll wear any badge that means "conservative" to them.

And you will still NEVER understand that party affiliation does not dictate political philosophy. I think you are the one that likes to say, "but, Lincoln was a Republican!" All while ignoring that he was a liberal.

Lincoln is a Republican. Just like the racist, Willis Smith, in that ad is a Democrat

Abraham Lincoln was indeed a Republican, as was Theodore Roosevelt.
Willis Smith was indeed a Democrat.

All three would be shunned by their respective parties today.

A matter of opinion, but I won't let Democrats lie about what party Lincoln belonged to.

What he's trying to tell you is you're dumb and misinformed. We figured a Wiki link would be enough, but apparently it's difficult to comprehend that conservatives all used to be Democrats.

Meh, guess we'll have to post the link again when you have your daily dosage of slow next time around.

A matter of opinion,

No I'm sorry, it's not opinion. I'd love to see you argue this in a political science course though, might be fun to see you laughed out of the room.

You're a liar. It's that plain and that simple. I'm sorry you're so stupid. I'm tired of asshole Democrats that try to claim every honest and ethical Republican is actually a closet Democrat and that every nasty and wicked Democrat is secretly a Republican.

I've taken political science courses and you're wrong. At least with honest and ethical instructors.

You're being dishonest with yourself if you really believe that, which I doubt. I suspect you're just trolling.

Here's Trent Lott on Strom Thurmond's 100ty birthday-

And a little bit of background-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Democrats

*Social Conservatives* in the South deserted the Democratic Party in droves, and the Republicans welcomed them with open arms. The most obvious feature of social conservatism in the South had been Segregation & Jim Crow...

liar. stupid. asshole nasty wicked

Um..... you OK?

I've taken political science courses and you're wrong. At least with honest and ethical instructors.

Well I'VE taken Godlike Studies and therefore I will smite thee!!!!!!

Jeez man, you are either on a sarcastic rant, or a very pissed adolescent that thinks because he took a few classes he knows everything.

Type Q personality.

I've seen different versions of the quote, and it wasn't recorded.

Here's one: "Bill, I've just handed the South to the Republicans for fifty years, certainly for the rest of our life times."

Now, it's pretty absurd to expect Johnson to accurately predict how long the effect would be decades later for his bill.

His point obviously was that his supporting the end of segregation would turn the South Republican for a long time, decades, at least it seemed to him.

He was sadly right - and that's largely determined who won the presidency ever since.

It was the very next election that brought Kevin Phillips' racist 'southern strategy'.

If you want to be perceived as mentally challenged about his political perspective--he was liberal--then knock yourself out. That is, remove your helmet and it should happen "naturally."

Nah, I just get tired of the same old lies told by the same old asshats.

I didn't disagree with your liberal rating, what I did say is that Lincoln is a Republican.

This guy predicted it all. 🙂 Pat Buchanan is a bit late to the game with his book.

lol for a sec thought was Will Smith, would be funny if it was ;]

And I hate to break it to you, but you either imagined this or just had horrid instructors. There isn't any controversy over this except among fringe historical revisionists. The record is very clear, there is literally a library of information regarding conservative Democrats anti-black stances and how Repubs and Dems switched parties 50 years ago over the issue. You think it's a fucking coincidence that blacks that once voted in droves for Republicans now vote 95% Dem?

This is all documented in the wiki link. Read it, fucking hack.

The strategy was first adopted under future Republican President Richard Nixon and Republican Senator Barry Goldwater[1] in the late 1960s.[2] The strategy was successful in some regards. It contributed to the electoral realignment of Southern states to the Republican Party, but at the expense of losing more than 90 percent of black voters to the Democratic Party. As the 20th century came to a close, the Republican Party began trying to appeal again to black voters, though with little success.[2] In 2005, Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman formally apologized for his party's use of the Southern Strategy in the previous century.[3]

If democrats today decided to become conservatives and republicans decided to become liberal, would you become liberal so you can stay republican?

Haha, yeah I'd love to see him answer that. Of course Lincoln was Republican; but he was a liberal guy that would have been a Democrat in 2012. That's just an overwhelming likelihood you'd have to be a mouthbreather not to accept.

Exactly what i said you loser, it's a fact. You are making a guess at what he would be now, a guess and nothing more. idiot

based on his policies and actions which are very much a part of history?

No one used the power of government to the degree--and extremes--as Lincoln. Never has there been a more powerful federalist in the White House.

The current Republican party, created by the southern Dixiecrats of the 60s-70s (the segregationists Helms and Thurmond), sympathize for the antebellum south--a world profoundly destroyed by Lincoln's progressive policies.

You and your ilk would have run him out with pitchforks and torches.

I'm guessing history/facts aren't quite your thing?

Haha, yeah sure, just my guess based on his positions on civil rights, war, federal power, social programs, et al. Just based on his entire record, that's all. lol.

Lincoln being a Republican in 2012 would be a sharp reversal of everything he stood for from the 1830's to 1860's both as a senator and POTUS. And you couldn't show otherwise if your life depended on it, and you fucking know it.
