It depends. I've from time to time passed local cops on the interstate when they are doing the speed limit and I'll be doing 5 over. Just this week I was driving on the thruway and a cop was in the middle lane doing 65, everyone was passing him on the left doing 70.

Funny though I've never passed a state trooper. I don't think they ever willingly do the posted speed limit.

Same here. If you have out of state plates they'll pull you over for speeding 1 MPH on I-80. In-state drivers pass constantly, just not too fast.
 
Was on Interstate in WI many years ago, and some cop was doing like 2 over the limit. Ford Tarus wagon got in line, thought about it for a while, and then inched past the cop at a relative difference of probably .4 mph Was kinda sad really. The cop waited a little bit to let him think the driver got away before he lit up the lights.
 
I passed a cop on a motorcyle about 3 weeks ago. He was going about 60 in the 4th of 5 lanes. In Chicago, traffic moves at 75-80, and everyone was stacked up behind him. I passed him at about 70 in the far left lane. Didn't even get a look from him, and I figured out he was a cop when I saw it on the bottom of his windscreen as I passed him. Hell, I didn't even know State Police in IL still drove bikes.

I also passed a k9 unit in a suburban on the same streach of road, but a few weeks before.


Those were the only times I ever passed a cop, unless you count the time I didn't see one and passed him doing about 90; which I got a ticket for 😛

Hell, I'd never do it! I've yet to get a speeding ticket partially because there are idiots getting pulled over right and left for stupid sh!t. 😉
 
yea i hate it when they go onto freeways just to mangle the traffic. most obvious if you're lookin downhill and see a cluster around the patrol car😛
 
I have no problem passing them.

This is part of the reason I don't b!tch about them speeding. If they do the speed limit it causes a clusterfvck

Reminds me of a story that happened a few years ago locally. Two bored state Ps drove at 30-45 MPH on I-80. (a two lane interstate with limit of 75, usually people drive 75-80+ in rural areas) Since there are very few exits for some long stretches and absolutely no other good road to take this caused a huge backup. They got nothing more than a slap on the wrist IIRC. 🙁

I pass them all the time given the opportunity. Most of them go 10km/h over but some stick to the limit or less.

I figure if they can go 10 over without their lights on why can't everybody else?

I have passed many a cop, always within 5 mph of the speed limit though.

The last tim eI got pulled over it was when I was going the speed limit (they got me because of expired plates and tints on my front windows ...

Stupid DMV took 50 days ot get me my sticker .....) ...

Cops actually obey the speed limits?!? Here in Toronto, they're constantly weaving in and out traffic and going like 15+ the speed limit. So no worries here about speeding pass cops. You need to speed to keep up with them.
 
People who don't pass cops going the speed limit don't bother me; but cops who speed in normal driving really pisses me off; I hate cops who are on a power trip and who think they're above the law. Have cops given other cops on duty speeding tickets before?
 
am i the only one that notices that cops often drive ABOVE the speed limit? around here, it seems lots of police dont follow traffic regulations, but then again, neither does anybody else. it just seems that police would....
 
i passed a cop hiding somewhere who spotted me speeding down I-15. he let me go without a written ticket or warning even though i was goin 96mph.
