Partitioning on a RAID array

Curious about something. I'm using Partitionmagic 8.

When I setup my partitions in partitionmagic (C:\ = 20gig then a logical partion w/ two 100gig partions) and click apply I get a message saying "there is no active partition - continue anyway?"

Sure enough, after restarting partitionmagic (and not making any changes), none of the partitions are labelled as "active." However, "set active..." is greyed out!

So does this even matter? What I'm afraid of is that after making these changes, it won't know where to boot from.

Note - this is a raid array with one big 240gig partition. I'm just simply trying to create 3 partitions.

click on the 20 gig partition, and then see if you can make it active. It needs to be active. If you are running this in windows, you will have to re-install windows, as this will wipe out everything.

Its grayed out. Even if I just boot partition magic and don't do a thing - right click on the 240gig partition, and goto Advanced, "Set Active" is not selectable. Same happens after I make partitions.

What could be causing this? How else can I make these partitions?

I just found the following text in the Quick Start Guide:

PartitionMagic does not support volume sets, stripe sets, stripe sets with parity, or
partitions located on disk mirror/duplex sets configured using Windows NT Disk
Administrator. Under Windows 2000/XP, PartitionMagic supports standard partitions
located on basic disk sets only.

Does this mean I can't use Partition Magic to create partitions? What CAN I use?

I have used this Acronis product to create and resize partitions on a raid. I haven't used 7tools for work on a raid but I'm pretty sure that it does. I don't believe either product explicitly states that they can work with raid drives. I think 7tools is the more powerful program, but Acronis has been recommended around here for raids before.

Either way, it seems to me, from when I looked into this before, that if you want to resize a raid, the raid has to be a 1 or 5 to work. There was issues with trying to do it on a raid 0.
