Partition Magic issues?

Does anyone know of any issues with PM 7 and Linux ext3? I used pm 7 to create a unpartitioned area on my c drive and then installed RH 7.2. The automatic partitioning function during the install stated recomended that I create a boot disk for RH because the install may not be bootable. I did that and the install went fine. I rebooted and the grub loader came up fine, but only listed RH, and not WinXP. It booted up and ran fine under XP, but didn't ever show a hint of XP.

This morning I poped int the PM 7 boot disk to see how the partitions looked, but before it finished loading, came up with a message saying that there was a partition table error and that it would fix it if I wanted. I did, and it did its thing. I rebooted, and more of the same, only RH listed in Grub.

So, had to get into XP, so I did a fdisk /MBR and rebooted... XP booted like a champ with no trace of RH or Grub. The machine is a Think Pad with 1 HD. It shows the partition size as what I changed it to.

What did I do wrong? Was it something during the install? XP was already loaded, and then RH in it's own separate partition space.

Thanks in advance

Shane

What you did wrong was listen to PM 7. If it thinks there is a problem, but everything works, why bother letting it fix this "problem?" It didnt tell you what kind of problem so you would have no way to tell if it is right or not. As far as no sign of XP when you reboot, did you bother to add XP's configuration to grub? If not, there is your problem. It was as simple as RTFMing.

<< So, had to get into XP. . . >>

You forgot to add "and I didnt want to configure grub to boot XP also"

<< so I did a fdisk /MBR and rebooted... >>

Again, you forgot something "So I could then complain about linux and pick up my MS paycheck"

<< XP booted like a champ with no trace of RH or Grub. >>

duh.

WoW, thanks for a whole bunch of VERY good information!!

Anyways, Linux boots fine with a boot disk and that's good enough for now.

Thanks for the help.
