That's gonna really screw up streetlights.😉

this is actually a little older of a practice than i figured would show up here.
i guess its just making news.
hey, i work in a school district...the title might as well be "Parents to Teachers: No More Corrections, Our Children Are Perfect."

What a bunch of whinies... First is red, then in 10 years whatever color they are using (green montana crayola?) will be the offensive one... so they will switch to dark coffe latte brown. Any color will cause stress because guess what??? its used to mark the MISTAKES, ERRORS, SCR*W UPS, ETC.

I work as a designer, and I do my own blueprints, sketches, etc.... when they contain errors, guess what??? RED... (they call em redlines)... sometimes I get an error here or there so a little red is used, sometimes it looks like a one year old got a hold of a lipstick and this means I have to review all I did wrong

RED STANDS OUT... (I urge people that go over my stuff and that if they find errors to use RED to mark them...)

Dont like red? work harder. Make sure you get rid of all red traces of YOUR work...

Now I've seen it all.

amazing isnt it?

Well they should use a hot pink. It screams out error even more and who could object to "pink"?😛 I feel sorry for teachers with all these overprotective "my child can do no wrong" parents out there. It's amazing they can even find people to do the job.
PINK?!?! Then Republicans will have to hold an emergency session of congress to save the children from your gay liberal agenda! :0 Lets do it, they need a cause to fight for after spongebob and Terri.

Sure, I don't expect any schools to still be using the old blue ditto "copies", but that isn't the point. WTF is wrong with Red? It stands out much more than a blue on black and just because someone's feelings are tweaked doesn't mean things should be changed.

Oh, and no - TROLL - I don't have a problem with Blue pens - do you have a problem with RED pens? "Were you violated by one as a child?"

CsG

Just that you seem irrationally against change. I agree with you that this stuff shouldn't be mandated by pitchfork-wielding mobs of parents. But you seem against any change in this regard whatsoever, almost like you would be opposed to individual teachers making educational decisions vis a vis the pens. Some teachers, who's opinions on the matter I take more seriously than you, seeing as they actually spend all day in the classroom, think that colour makes a difference. Would you be opposed to them switching to blue pens? Or purple? Or green with polka-dots?

The policy issue here is that the parents are interefering in the classroom. Not the colour of pens in use. If I were thrust into a classroom, I would use blue pens, because my sister (an actual teacher, and not a wimpy one either) says it makes a difference.

If pens make any difference at all in educational outcomes, then I would suggest that the psychological effect they have would outwiegh the problem of children not being able to find your corrections on a page. But you seem to think that that is a huge problem in our educational system, and that red pens should be mandated from on high.

Personally, I really don't think that it makes much difference one way or the other.

I agree with you on basic principle, and still think you are irrational. It's kinda funny. My "troll" had a point: you were being irrationally opposed to a tiny change that doesn't affect you. I wondered why.[/quote]

My stance is not about resisting change - it's about this issue being ridiculous. To mandate or otherwise discourage RED pen based on the reasoning presented is asinine. My statement about Red standing out against the differing forms of copies is logical as well as entirely true, but continue to think it's about resisting change if you must. Also, your assumption that I think it's a huge problem is wrong. I don't think it's a problem to use a Red pen so there is no need for this sort of BS. This is just another example though of how the gov't school system has been drifting towards feelings rather than education.

Oh, and it does affect me. My children are (unfortunately) attending(now and in the future) the gov't school system.

How about using a rainbow colored pen? 😛

So why are you a CAD sort of guy?

Personally, I liked writing with a red pen in some classes, at least in the classes that had a teacher I didn't like.

When i went to school, every mark on your paper was in red, even your grade. The grade was often large and circled in the margin at the top of the page. Students often passed the homework or tests back to the other students, so your grade was hardly a secret. We often had to keep the papers on the desk as we reviewed the test, and anybody could see your grade anyway.

Generally, students were segregated into classes that reflected their abilities as well, so a bad grade didn't lead your peers to think you were stupid, just lazy. I can't remember anyone acting like they were traumatized over red marks on their papers.

And I as well blame the parents. When I asked where all of these wussy kids came from, I was being sarcastic. It is not a masive defect in the gene pool, it is parents who desire to shelter their kids from anything that is not just wonderful.

The world is filled with adversety, and it will show up on everybody's door many times. The sooner kids learn to deal with it and figure out how to affect future events for their favorable benefit, the better off they will be. Artificially protecting the kids now will make them traumatized by the real world when they are on their own.

My grade 10 math teacher gave me a 66 for the year because I wrote all hs quizzes and exams in red pen, and he was pissed about having to change colours to mark them. (I'm not kidding either - I was a straight-A student in high school, other than that).

This is just a continuation of the PC movement.

If a teacher switches to green, then guess what....green will be the evil color.

Soon...dont stress the kid with any grades or critiques.

YAY!!!!
