Parents Suing Nissan After Dad Accidentally Runs Over Their Daughter

"People usually have the initial reaction that it was the parent's fault, that if the parent had been more careful it wouldn't have happened. But you can be the most careful parent in the world and this still happens."
That's a load of crap. I can guarantee that if you were the most careful parent in the world, this would absolutely not happen. This is taking it to an extreme, but I imagine the most careful parent in the world would ensure that none of their kids were anywhere near their vehicle upon entry, probably inside the house or on the other side of a fence.
I'm not the most careful parent in the world, but it's not hard to take precautions (such as paying attention to your child).
Where was the other parent when this happened? Shouldn't they have been able to see their two year old? Or do they make a regular practice of letting their toddler run around unsupervised in the driveway?

One of the first things you learn in drivers ed is to check behind your car before you back out of your driveway.

That's funny, they never taught us that in drivers ed 🙁

They don't teach you to avoid jabbing pencils into your eye sockets while you drive either - doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

i've got a much better safety option for him. Don't be an idiot and let you @year old daughter play in the damn driveway when you're backing out. seriously, who lets their 2 y.o. run around outside unsupervised. These people don't need to bear any more children for fear they will be as dumb, negligent, and irresponsible as they are.

I believe they usually put it somewhere along the lines of:

Walk ALL THE WAY AROUND YOUR VEHICLE.

Excessive? Perhaps.

Would it have saved their kid?

Yes.

I hope they get laughed out of court. Along with a judgment to pay all of Nissan's costs in dealing with this tripe.

Viper GTS

that would be the only TRUE justice. These frivolous lawsuits need to STOP now!

"There was no way he could avoid what happened," Mr. King said.

This annoyed me more than anything. Of course he could have avoided what happened. All he had to do was walk around behind his car before leaving the driveway. Sure, it takes a bit of time but if you don't have the ~10 seconds to look behind your car before pulling out you shouldn't have had a kid in the first place.

I'm filing a suit against the makers of soda cans, because if I turn one upside down, it spills all over my clothes. If the manufactureres would install some kind of umbrella-type device over my can, this wouldn't have happened.

LOL

In all fairness I think one's ability to think, reason, or pretty much be a sane person goes out the window when you run your child over with your car.

If they had wanted this on their vehicle, they could have gotten it aftermarket.

The mom claims to have never heard of such a product before this happened.

What if the child was behind the front wheel on the passenger side? Would they want a mirror there as well?

Or even better, what if the child were retrieving a toy from underneath the car. All cars shall from this day forth be manufactured with zero ground clearance!

The sad thing is these dumb f^cks will invariably WIN this case! Will personal accountability ever come back in this country?? When did society shift to making everything somebody elses fault?

Holy crap. Can't deal with the responsibility for having killed their own kid, so they have do whatever they can to make it someone else's fault. Good thing they are so idiotic that they removed their own offspring from the gene pool.
