Parents: Seven-year old wants a Nintendo DS

My birthday girl wants a Nintendo DS so she can play that "Nintendogs" game...which is great. As much as I would love to get her a real dog right now finances are tight, so this is a good compromise.

But, after that, what else would be good for a seven-year old girl? She's very much a girly-girl, and loves Spongebob, Hello Kitty, Bratz, etc...I noticed that there is a Spongebob game coming out in November, which I'll get her for X-mas, but I want to get her at least one more for her birthday next week.

Thanks!

Super Mario 64 DS is a good one.

Thanks!

Would that be something a 7-year old could handle though? Probably...(I still see my daughter as the helpless three-year old...haha)

I was thinking about this too:

Kirby

The gameplay mechanics are pretty simple (it's a Mario game, after all). I don't think she should have too much trouble.

Trying to think of games that would be appropriate for a 7 year old...

How about Sonic Rush? Seems like there's tons of anime type games for DS if she is, or might be into that kinda stuff.

id imagine she could play anything you give her, as long as she likes it. you know how selective females can be in their abilities.

if shes not already into yugioh or pokemon, stay away.....its crack for kids.

according to amazon, customers that bought this game, also bought: advance wars: dual strike and animal crossing

I picked up that Kirbay game for her...if she doesn't like it...then...too bad!!! Besides, I think she'll be playing the dog games much more often.

Books are good, but I didn't develop interest in books till about 10. I thought they were boring, who cares about a cat in a hat anyways, then I discovered Victor Hugo, T.H. White, and the other greats from my sisters hand me down high school books. 🙂 The only books I liked as a kid when I was younger, 5-7, was Pilgrim's Progress and Narnia books (although I didn't grasp the significance of the Narnia books till I was older).

If you want to buy her a DS with the new pet game get something else cute for her to play as well, like Kirby. Chances are, she will get bored of it after a while though like most 7 year olds, but if you are willing to shell out the cash, then Kirby and the Pet game FTW.

Buy her a book...

I'm assuming you don't have kids?

Ok, think back when YOU were a child...you're excited for YOUR day...you see that killer present from dad, you tear into it AND...there's a book...EXACTLY...not nearly as exciting as a gameboy, nintendo, etc...

Books are what aunts and uncles get her, or what parents get her as a small, side, gift...that MAIN gift has gotta be something "cool"...while books are very important to have...and she has plenty...they're certainly not "main gift" worthy.

QFT

Later on in life though, in High School, college, or beyond books are a great gift.

Be aware that Nintendogs has the most annoying soundtrack of any game, ever. Just letting you know so you prepare yourself during those 3 hour drives to grandma's house with her little fluffy barking the entire way. ACK!

Heh, maybe the OP should get a pair of headphones to go along with the game. 😉

I agree.

Besides why buy books when you can get them for free at the library?
