And people say we watch too much television.

I knew a guy named Mike Hunt that worked in a bakery in my town. That would be cool and suck ass to have that name at the same time.

Heard this one from a L&D nurse (who was incensed over name choice by parent):

Asshole - pronounced Ash-o-lee

True story: Friend of mine used to do records for a hospital. New baby named Chlamydia (sp?). Turns out mom saw the name on her hospital chart, and thought it would make a good name for her daughter.

*** True Story ***

This guy's name was Richard Kraineum.

Ok... so that wasn't a story... and it wasn't true... but... I did know a guy named Mike Hunt in high school.

Ok... so that's not true either... but it would be funny wouldn't it?

sorry, i still dont figure out what is wrong with LaZanya?
It is phonetically identical to "lasagna", a tasty italian tomato and cheese pasta dish.

P.S. One of my friends (a little weird, she was) wanted to name her future daughter "Meridian". It sounds nice, but it means "divider". Y'know that raised curb between two directions of traffic on a street? That's a meridian.

i think it looks like merit-ian. i think that is what she likes.

My mom works as a secretary at a construction company. She has all sorts of people calling all day long and has to take down their names. One of the guys that calls somewhat regularly, and comes into the office to talk with the contractors and stuff is named "Hod Semen". I'm unsure of the spelling, but that's just how it's pronounced.

I'd heard of two couples naming their son "ESPN". Story

There are some other goodies in the article.

Armand... Nice French first name, a little unusual, but not retarted - unless used in classic Parent Humour with an inappropriate last name. (For the one who didn't get it: "Arm And Hammer" is a popular brand name known for baking soda and deodorizer.)

Fleur D'Amour is a very poetic and romantic phrase to name a girl... but it's stupid in French too. :)

Several of the names bandied around here are covered on Snopes, of course.

My own name is just spelled the very old-fashioned way, but pronounced a simple "Neal/Neil". The last name is equally old-spelling, making for a very unique combination. But it sounds simple enough at least!

A schoolmate had a name that he hated in Math class: Alain Feeny. Looks simple enough, combination of French first and English last names, but the normal way to pronounce it makes a phrase that translates as "to the infinite", something that was used extensively in high school math one year. Another one on the class roster had a first name of "Derrick", probably a variation on the fine Darick; but to be spelled like a petroleum extractor machine is not very flattering, especially coupled with the unfortunate last name of "Papillon", aka Butterfly...

Names that are fine in one culture and brought over (literally) to another may be amusing, but no more. But parents who knowingly make a bad pun with their child's name? They deserve some form of punishment.
