Do you guys find that using cake flour as opposed to all purpose flour makes a difference in cakes? I can't recall seeing cake flour at my local grocery.

I don't make cake, but I found this...

Cake flour is a highly specialized type of wheat flour, intended for use in making cakes, cookies, and other delicate baked goods. Several characteristics differentiate cake flour from other wheat flours, making it unsuitable for certain tasks like baking bread. Many markets carry cake flour, and in a pinch a substitute can be made with ¾ cup sifted bleached all purpose flour and two tablespoons of cornstarch.

Bought a HP ProBook 4530s off of Newegg for $484.99. I could have gotten it for $470 from some other online retailer, but I chose Newegg for simplicity and usual reliability. (I've used them a lot)

I'll get reimbursed from parents. It has 1 USB 3.0 port. It runs OSx86 perfectly ;) It's a big reason as to why I bought it. It also is supposed to have decent build quality because it's more business based.

It should be good for most of what I do. I'm thinking of getting an SSD for it, but unsure yet because I will be limited on space if I install OSX and Win7 (That's probably 20gigs of just OS). I don't know if OSX and Win7 can share a common partition nicely either. (Fat 32 maybe?)

Windows 7 is about 15GB installed. I don't recall how much space OSX takes up, but it's on a dual-layer DVD.

Yeah, I am usually not troubled by space. Now I am apparently. 320GB HDD is problematic. All well. It's cool. If it has a lot of stuff on it, I am doing it wrong. :p

Is that for new installation? I remember allocating Win7 a 25GB partition and I was soon down to about 3GB of free space. I have since re-sized the partition to 35GB and my free space hovers around 6-8GB nowadays (the Win7 installation is about 1.5 years old).

If you look around there are guides to trimming Win7 down to like less than 10GB I think. I didn't bother since I didn't have an SSD, but I was considering doing that and looked into it.

If you turn off hibernation you should save quite a bit of space. System Restore can also be turned off to save a lot of space as well. I'd only do that if you make an image that you can load from and keep updated, but if you're going to the trouble of trimming it down you might as well go full on.

I'm somewhat excited for this laptop. It's not going to be a great performer. (Core i3-2310m - 2.1ghz non-turbo, Intel HD 3000, HDD(7200rpm tho), 4gb ram) However, it should be good enough for programming, writing papers, surfing web, watching HD videos, a bit of lightroom (Monitor color accuracy aside), and most other things. Gaming it will not be used for. (Unless it's something older like Diablo/Diablo II)

Sorry, I should have been a bit more explicit in what my provided guesstimate represented. It doesn't include the pagefile, so it may represent less than what you'd actually see if you left Windows alone (since the pagefile is enabled by default, but isn't an actual install file).

I got my value by looking at my server (runs Windows 7) since it only has a few small applications installed. I removed the pagefile sized and a little extra to account for the applications.

Blah blah blah, Trident complaining about something stupid, blah blah blah

Back to the subject at hand, I can't wait for Thanksgiving and all the pies that usually accompany it. Can't wait for a good rhubarb or apple pie!

Oh hell yes. My great aunt used to make it. Boy do I miss rhubarb.
Born 1911, she grew up on a farm in S.C. Had to take over the kitchen when her Mom died 1922. We used to eat there every Saturday. OMG. Pineapple upside down cake, from scratch pound cake, banana pudding......

Crap I just gained 3lbs.

Received my $1500 in my account. It'll be going towards that computer($500), rent($400), and books for school($550, no alternatives than UW Bookstore for some of the books).

Got OS X running on my laptop today. Yay pants. It took some struggle because I didn't have admin rights on my school computers (Which made me give up at one point), but I got some helpers to put in some passwords for me. :)

Now it's got OS X... I just have to install Windows 7. :p I don't know anything about OS X, so this is going to be interesting.
