Despite Tom Cruise's departure from the Paramount lot, studio bosses want to keep the profitable Mission Impossible series alive and desperately want Brad Pitt to take over the role. Paramount is prepared to offer Pitt $40,000,000 US for the part, which would make him the highest paid movie star in history. A source tells London Lite:

Pitt is a much better actor than Cruise and has enough star power to keep the franchise alive. I can't really think of a better choice at this point but $40 million? Why is Hollywood crying about profitability again?

I think it's a virtual b1tch slap to the face of Cruise they were going for.

That sounds like one of those "feed the kids" commercials.....you're not gonna use them for acting are you?

Pitt is a much better actor than Cruise? Are you serious, or just letting your hatred for the man cloud your thoughts?

You assume that since I like Pitt better than Cruise that I have 'hatred' for Cruise? I can't think of any recent Cruise movie I disliked bud so stop making assumptions. You know what they say about those...

*EDIT*
Okay, I lied. I didn't really care for War of the Worlds but that had more to do with the 30 minutes with Tim Robbins than anything Cruise did.

all you gotta do is look at the kinds of movies both have played in and how well they have done in each roll. Forget the popcorn movie factor. Fight Club alone trumps any movie Cruise has ever done.

Personally, I think Pitt is a better fit for an Ethan Hunt-ish character anyway.

Brad Pitt is a great actor, but for the last 10 years Tom Cruise has been the star of the Mission: Impossible movies. When someone says "Mission Impossible" I think Tom Cruise. It's going to be difficult adjusting to someone else being the star of MI IV.

He was also really good in Se7en as well. I even liked Troy and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

I think the franchise could do well without Cruise. So many people were turned off to MI:3 by his off-screen antics that it HAD to hurt the movie.

I liked him in Ocean's 11. He seems a little too laid back to do an MI movie, but who knows. I like MI:1, not so much on MI:2. Is MI:3 worth seeing?

i agree.

say what you will about his off screen persona, on screen he is an admirable actor.
i'd rather see Cruise in the next MI than Pitt.

I dont think i've ever seen a movie with Pitt in it that wasn't great. I'm not saying he's the best actor or anything, just that he picks damn good roles to be in. Kind of like Sean Connery.

Legends of the Fall was okay. Wasn't he in A River Runs Through It? If so, umm...

are people seriously arguing over who's the better actor, Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise? Why not throw Keanu in there for good measure...

That's actually a horrible comparison. For some reason I think you know that as well you just won't admit it.
