Paperclip or staple to keep resume and cover letter together?

Motherfuckin' manila folder

You'd hand your resume over to an employer in a folder?

Me? No. I don't hand in my resumes personally. I have my bodybuilding bodyguard politely walk behind the HR man and place it in front of him.

Mail it in an envelope w/o either one. If you're handing them over in person, then let them deal with it with whatever system they prefer.

I'm surprised so many people picked paper clip.

Most employers will seperate it, lose a page or two, get annoyed, toss it. Especially if they are looking at a lot of resumes at once.

Staple keeps it together.

Then they are too fuckin stupid and you don't want to work for them any way.

neither. Just hand to them in an envelope or folder. And always carry several copies with you and mention the fact that you have more copies with you in case they need it. They will appreciate the fact and your chances of getting the job will be higher.
