I'd say that the paperclip is more professional, but the staple is much more functional.

Thoughts?

You'd hand your resume over to an employer in a folder?

Me? No. I don't hand in my resumes personally. I have my bodybuilding bodyguard politely walk behind the HR man and place it in front of him.

paperclip.

makes it easier to photocopy when they want to distribute it around to the entire office to laugh at you.

Mail it in an envelope w/o either one. If you're handing them over in person, then let them deal with it with whatever system they prefer.

Just write it out on a pad of post it notes, then they can separate, attach, and arrange them to their liking.

I'm surprised so many people picked paper clip.

Most employers will seperate it, lose a page or two, get annoyed, toss it. Especially if they are looking at a lot of resumes at once.

Staple keeps it together.

Is that how he got the job?

neither. Just hand to them in an envelope or folder. And always carry several copies with you and mention the fact that you have more copies with you in case they need it. They will appreciate the fact and your chances of getting the job will be higher.
