Hard to compete with mass produced crap with senior discounts in a city full of retirees. The ingredients to make the best possible pizza cost roughly $0.35 so fuck them for trying to gouge their potential customers.

the only way to fix this is to make a highly political comment.
A day after Papa John’s CEO claimed that player protests in the NFL were responsible for lower sales at the chain, the man in charge of Pizza Hut says that’s ridiculous.
“We’re not seeing impact on any of that on our business,” Greg Creed, CEO of Yum Brands—parent company of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and other chains—said in a call with investors on Thursday. Yum Brands posted third-quarter earnings and revenue that beat analyst forecasts, due in part to Pizza Hut’s improved performance.
Maybe the NFL should just say "fuck you" and license their brand to a different pizza chain?
I tried the Papa Murphy's place and it was garbage. Pay the same price for an unbaked pie as a chain one. WTF? I got two different ones and they had to be cooked at different temps. Not everyone has the right setup to cook pizza's evenly so it was a guessing game. The store didn't last long in my area.I've seen a big shift to "Subway" style pizza places. Basically a build your own style where you can get a small pizza made *really* the way you want it for $5-$8. Blaze, Pie Five, ect. They are very popular in my college town. Plus the "Other" Papa has taken over for us for lots of take home pizza. Papa Murphy's. $11 and we can get a huge NY style pizza and side of cheesy garlic bread. We take it and bake it at home and it's a hit.
Instead of blaming politics maybe Papa John needs to look at the market and see what people are buying instead.

He's not talking about unbaked take-home pizzas like Papa Murphy's. Blaze and those other chains make 700 F-fired personal pizzas that are make in front of you, with pre-baked crust that you load with whatever you want, then bake them in the oven ~5 minutes or less. It's like the Chipotle model for pizza.
I mentioned both actually. I have young kids and Papa Murphy's is an easy and cheap dinner. $11 and it feeds 4 of us for 1.5 meals. It's not great pizza, but it's better than frozen.
So much terrible pizza being discussed in this thread.
Alright, alright, pizza casserole guy.
Just one more thing you're wrong about.I tried the Papa Murphy's place and it was garbage. Pay the same price for an unbaked pie as a chain one. WTF? You are precariously close to insulting my hometown pizza, son.
Hey now, I like them all. But while I prefer NY style to others, I find Chicagoans' constant defense of their style for whatever reason, to be rather annoying. I lived there for a few years, and I do like it, but I don't find it to be so unique and so amazing to warrant the levels of pride that Chicagoans have for their stuffed and deep dish pizzas.
Italian beef and Chicago dogs, however, well that's different.
that's it, you're all on my list.™
It's okay, they're talking about pizza, not casseroles or pot pies (minus the lid), you shouldn't have any reason to be offended.that's it, you're all on my list.™
