panic attacks

ive recently (in the last week or so) had 3 panic attacks... ive never had any before in my life. im not sure exactly what it is, the doctor said it may be withdrawl from wellbutrin or percocet, but who knows.

anyway im just wondering how many of you have had panic attacks. did they occur often or was it a one-time thing? if they were recurring, were you able to stop/control them or do you still get them?

ive had a few, nothing serious. i used to be on wellbutrin, but i never had any problems after going off of it.
the couple of times they did happen, it was due to a lot of stress in my environment, but they were deffinitely seperate events.

Yes, I've had them before. They often come about from stress and anxiety.

Of course you wont' like to hear it: If you stop living a lie, you'll lose a lot of stress and anxiety in your life and you'll probably feel a lot better, even if you don't realize right now that you are stressed and anxious. The body knows when a person is lying. It reacts physically. Also, get off the drugs.

Have had several. I get them frequently when I have a high fever from like the flu. I've learned to block them out somewhat when I have them. When I do have them it almost feels like my senses have heightened, like hearing. I'll start hearing low muffled things as loud, room kinda spins almost. And other classic symptoms. With a little concentration you can block them out, the little spinning and heightened hearing will last, but I can overcome the other symptoms. Mind over mind? 😱

neonerd, i had one in my sleep that wasnt that bad, i just woke up and couldnt breathe or move. then i had one in my car on the way to work that day and couldnt breathe, felt really dizzy, got really hot, and my heart was beating SUPAFAST. then i just hyperventilated for a while. the last one was today and also wasnt that bad, i just had trouble breathing and got dizzy.

gtaudiophile, i have some lexipro samples. the doctor gave them to me in case im still having them in another week or so... but i dont really like medicine. im guessing it works well though.

Some general info for anyone:

Try to save the 'happy' drugs as a last resort. They're not solving the problem, only covering the symptom.

It took three years to track down why I kept having anxiety attacks randomly. Finally, I found out I had/have an Iodine deficiency. Iodine is necessary for your thyroid to work correctly. When there is a shortage, the thyroid begins to overwork. This can lead to panic attacks as a result of the hormone imbalance produced.

There was a major iodine deficiency in the industrialized world at the turn of the 20th century. As a result, most industrialized nations now sell Iodized Salt so people get their necessary iodine.

However, that doesn't work for people like me that never eat salt.

I ate some natural iodine supplements and my anxeity problems gradually went away.

Mine were triggered by minor events that I replayed in my mind and I got sort of worked up over it until I started sweating like mad and my heart was about to beat out of my chest and I got light-headed. Important thing is to find that stress trigger and keep out of your mind, concentrate on something else. AND the best thing to remember: Just Breathe! Take deep breathes, turn on some music, etc.

i had blood work done to make sure theres nothing wrong with my thyroid and that i dont have anemia or anything. i dont really like the happy drugs either but i might as well give them a try. the wellbutrin was to quit smoking, although i didnt really want to so it didnt work. lets not talk about that though. and the percocet was for my teeth i wasnt taking it just for fun.

I have OCD and I used to have panic attacks that would pretty much put me on the ground.
Drugs never seemed to help, so I had to learn how to control them by convincing myself that I was okay.
They eventually went away after a few years.

I agree that drugs are not the solution. I think it's more psychological than anything, reflecting other issues in life (or a series of mounting long-term decisions in my case).

Nearly died. My heart nearly stopped after beating wildly and skipping that the EKG looked like an earthquake and they thought I broke the machine.

I was under a lot of stress then (happens when you're in Jail and facing 120 years prison time).

Haven't had any attacks like that since although I thought one could happen again when suddenly divorced a few months ago.
