No. You don't have to get the 4 pin tail.

What a great visual explanation!

From the people at http://www.silentpcreview.com/index.php they say this is one the best fans you can buy period. Also that the japflos are superior and between all the (I use this term lightly) anal members and staff, theyve probably seen 10,000 panaflos.

Responce to 3point14... 12v unless you want it to spin slower 5v work fine but I dont know about 3v... but not a direct from the psu line except 12v

You'll get Chinese versions. If you want a guaranteed Japanese, they're $5.99 each at Jab-tech.
It sounded like in your previous post, you were saying that you've also gotten Japaflows (I love saying that word) by ordering these specific ones.

If you get several of these, how do you power them? They can't all run off the mobo can they?

Also earlier in this thread, Melectricus says the NMB fans are quieter than these. Anyone else found this to be true?

Anyone know how the Speeze Masscool fans compare?

Excuse my ignorance, but do these run off of 3v or 5v? I would like to use these in a stereo cabinet to cool down a receiver, cable box, dvd player, etc. and I need to connect them to AC instead of DC. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on the easiest way to convert these DC fans to run off of AC, please PM me :)
Says in product description. 12 volt DC.
you needFAN1042
Or a converter, or a DC power supply.
You can just crack open your HTPC (you have one right?) and run the fans off of your P/S.

I should have just read the despription and I would have known it was 12V :p. I would run the fans off of my HTPC, but the fans are for my dad's entertainment center. I will check out the link you gave me. It looks like those should work just fine. It's not like he needs anything quiet considering he won't hear the fans over his speakers :D

panaflos are techincally made by NMB

panaflos are in the small handfull of fans out there that are concidered silent (undervoleted), generally defined as quiet next to your ear and totally silent at typical computing distance for one fan

they also are great in that they are very quiet at a full 12v (not silent) unlike some fans concidered totally silent undervolted and dont perform so great at 12v, another plus is they move a decent amount of air

speezes quietest model is decent in the average fan catagory from what I understand but its not in the same catagory as a panaflo

and dont be mistaken that all panaflos are quiet, they make very loud fans also

of course all these terms (silent, quiet, ect...) are somewhat subjective, but from reading quiet computer sites for some time thats the general idea ive come up with

visit http://www.silentpcreview.com/
ask a question about any fan ever made in forums and somebody will respond that theyve tested this fan, and alot these people are religious about there fans, theyve purchased hundreds of fans over the years and know there stuff

Your statement is correct. I HAVE received Japanese versions from them before...but your chances of getting them from them NOW is slim to none. My apologies for the misinterpretation. I meant that post to say that I have received them in the past (read that as a LONG time ago) and it was more a testamonial to how the Chinese versions were inferior than to what type of fan you'd get from them.

I am "one of the people" from SPCR. I don't post half as often as most of them do there nor do I have the experience the founders do there, but I keep to their standards. Your NMB fans and your (insert any fan here mentioned) fan isn't going to hold a candle to the Panaflo's in terms of silence. Even at 12v they're smoother than 99.9% of the fans out there. I leave .1 for some fan down the road to appear.

That AC fan should work fine then. You might want to price them at your local Fry's or other electronics parts store first (I have no idea how much they go for). I imagine they are significantly louder than a DC fan, just because the motor seems bigger.
The nice thing about them is you can just wire it to the AC outlet on the back of your receiver.

i was going to get two, one for my xp120 and one for case...well maybe two for my case...so thats 4*3+shipping if they really were 4 dollars

thats why i was so anxious

I ordered ten on 2/6, got a notice of shipment on 2/8 and received them 10 minutes ago (2/10). They're all made in Japan! Very happy with the order/price.

Holy crap. Lucky bastid! :p

Guess chances of getting Japanaflo's are better than slim to none hehe. I stand corrected.

I love these fans. Im using one with a thermaltake silent boost cooler for my Athlon 64 3200+. Heatsink barely gets warm at 100% CPU load for an hour.

came with no screws and it was rather poorly packaged (not enough packing foam) but everything appears to be okay. comes with the 2 pin which can be easily modified to work with a 3 pin header. great deal!

I've never had case fans come with screws.
Should of ordered a case like I did and then they just send them out in factory packaging;)

I got my 10-pack from this deal.

They are Japanese, come with the two-pin connector.

I compared two pairs of one Japanese and one Chinese each. They are pretty much identical when it comes to airflow and air movement noise which is basically none.

If you put your ear close enough you hear motor noise, especially on the front side. I don't think they' be audible on the back side of a case blowing out, but in the front blowing in (and hence having the motor side exposed to the front) I wouldn't be so sure especially if you mount several.

The Japanese ones in my two comparisions have noticably more motor noise than the Chinese ones.

This test had been made with a normal noise PC, I'll make a second test with a more silent PC.
