Got to play around with one today. Looks very sweet. Gonna wait till Monday to see what the new iPhone looks like, but I'm very tempted to switch over. I'll be missing my tons of apps though if I do (so I might just stay).

Went to a Sprint kiosk in same small mall somewhere on the border of Connecticut/Massachusetts. They said they got about 50, but i got there around 6pm and they still had 7 left. I guess no one expected them to get any since it's a kiosk.

I personally don't like the more 'squat' feel of the phone, but I can see how some people would. The screen is nice, but I thought the web browsing experience was pretty sub-par. The pages did not scroll smoothly for me, and I found it to be a major, major PITA to have to open the keyboard just to type in a site's name. Especially if you are browsing while holding the phone horizontally. In addition, the keypad was almost sticky, and the keys are much to small for me, and I don't even have large hands. I found it harder to type on that than on the iphone, and I usually have no problem with BB keyboards.....

anyways, just my 2 cents

I agree about the browsing and having to swap to type. But I never liked browsing on these phones anyway other than a quick look up. I haven't found it too different than the ipod touch I have.

The shape of the phone I LOVE. so yeah, subjective, heh.

As for the sticky keys, it's suppose to wear off after a week or two. Mine has already felt less sticky. It takes a little adjusting IMO, you can't just pick up and go. It's small learning curve I have been able to adjust fairly quickly. But yes, it is on the small side.

To be honest, I don't see you switching over unless you're just so sick and tired of at&t. the lack of apps is what is killing palm for the masses. I personally find them a bonus. WebOS and how it handles messaging and email and calendaring are my key reasons for getting a smart phone finally.

But Apps will make or break this device... well, I'm not thinking they'll break, but more of just either become mediocre on that front.

I love my bb8830 but am very interested in this device. I do browse quite a bit so the comments regarding the typing/web experience have me concerned. I assume that once you've bookmarked the majority of sites you visit this becomes more of a non-issue? Assuming you're not trying to forum type...

yes you can bookmark everything and place your 12 favorite or most visited sites on the opening card so when you tap on the browser they are right there..

What phones were those of you who bought the Pre using before and how do you feel about the Pre? I think it would be interesting to see just how much the like/dislike crowd align based on previous phone experience. Personally I would be most interested in what former Blackberry (non-Storm) users think about the Pre.

lefty, thanks for the info. I'm going to try to see if the local Sprint store has a demo either today or tomorrow.

you mean a bookmark?

tap web in the launcher, then tap on the word web in the upper left hand corner...

a drop down menu will appear..

tap bookmarks and all your bookmarks will appear in a drop down list....

tap hold and drag off the screen the bookmark you want to get rid of and you will see an option to delete the bookmark

tap delete and its gone.

so it is showing up where your apps are?

if that is what you mean then open the app launcher tap on the word launcher in the upper left hand corner

a drop down menu will appear.. tap "list apps"

you will see a list of downloaded apps..tap the bookmark and it will give you the option to delete it.

I went from an iPhone to the Pre this weekend. So far my impressions are quite good. It fixes a number of my annoyances w/ the iPhone and does just overall seems quite a bit faster to me. I'm still figuring out certain things, and it does feel a bit "unfinished" in that some features seem "missing" something, but its overall a really solid alternative to the iPhone.

try looking where I originally said..in the bookmark section..since it is a bookmark rather then an app it might be listed there.

One reason I avoided the iphone is because I just like having a 'normal' keyboard. The pre has a keyboard but if you're saying a lot of the good iphone functionality exists in this device I am probably sold already.

I have owned two blackberries. My best friend and my girlfriend both have the iphone, so i've spent a considerable amount of time with that device.

I had thought that i wanted Android. Then when CES happened the pre seemed perfect for me.

I got mine saturday morning. Is it perfect? No. but is it better than the iphone and the bb's. yes.

Expecting good battery life on any phone that constantly uses the net and has all those features is just stupid.
