Why did Newsweek choose THAT photo?

"an Editors Note at Runner’sWorld.com: “On the cover of this week’s issue of Newsweek is a photo that was shot for the August 2009 issue of Runner’s World , in which Sarah Palin was featured on the monthly ‘I’m a Runner’ back page. Runner’s World did not provide Newsweek with the image. Instead, it was provided to Newsweek by the photographer’s agency, without Runner’s World’s knowledge or permission.”"

Probably for several reasons.

She looks pretty hot and it will draw the eye and sell copies.
They thought it would piss her off and get her talking about it which would make it more high profile and it would sell more copies.
They were making a joke about her "running" for president.
They were showing that she's a self-promoter who will do photoshoots in workout clothes knowing it would get her attention.

Ultimately it was likely to sell more copies. But the one thing it likely isn't is sexist given that it was 2 women who picked out the photo.

But Palin was picked in large part by the McCain campaign because of her looks and her sex, trying to tap into disaffected HRC supporters. I don't know if that's sexist, but it's clearly playing the gender card.

you said it yourself she looks pretty hot, of which i agree. if that inst sexist i dont know what is. it doesnt matter if two women editors picked that stolen photo. women can be very sexist towards each other.

But as long as she hasn't ruled out a future presidential run, we're going to keep exposing her for who she is.

You've got to be an absolute fool to think she's got any real, honest-to-goodness shot at getting elected president, or even getting the GOP nomination. As many have already said, Palin's the Paris Hilton of political culture, and I'm continually stunned anyone listens to either of those two idiots. You're merely obsessed with Palin because you're a partisan hack who desperately wants Palin to be the GOP's Al Sharpton, the in-the-spotlight idiot embarrassing the national party, a goal which she's well on the way of accomplishing.

I sincerely hope she has no "honest to goodness" shot at being elected president, of course people said the exact same thing about Obama a year before he ran. People told him Clinton had it wrapped up as far back as 07, that he should stay home and forget about it, this was ordained and nobody could possibly beat the Clinton machine. Do I think she could beat Obama in 2012? Extraordinarily unlikely. Do I think she'll run? I think she very well might if only for the attention it brings her. Polling actually puts her tied with Huckabee right now despite all we know about her.

Frankly I think I could get by in a country with Romney as president. If that ameliorates your opinion of me as a hack, great. If not, I guess you can blow yourself.

Wow. You actually compared Palin to Obama. I'm no Obama fan by any stretch, but even most of his critics acknowledge the man has an intellect WELL above average. Palin's not even in the same ballpark.

Her current approval ratings are higher than Obastards, so it would be a good pick. Last I read she was at 51%.

Sounds like you haven't read anything in a while then:

As to people who think she has a shot at the nomination being "fools", you're casting an awfully wide net mursilis:

And Bush was considered an idiot too yet was elected twice; intelligence doesn't appear to be a key factor in gop nominations.

GWBush didn't win so much as luck into the Dems handing him two elections they easily could've won, but for arrogance. Al Gore ran an awful campaign in '00 and still barely lost, and the Dems stupidly choose arguably the weakest candidate in the field in '04, when GWB was extremely vulnerable. John Kerry was nothing more than Michael Dukakis with some medals. GWB was only the victor by default both those years.

I have to say that I agree again. I find it exceedingly unlikely that Palin will get the Republican nomination. Primary voters might be hard core ideologues, but they know a loser when they see one. Republicans picked McCain in 2008 despite his fairly significant unpopularity in the party, and they did so because he was the only one of the lot with a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

Everyone knows Palin would suffer one of the most catastrophic electoral defeats in American history if she were the Republican nominee, and that's why Republicans wouldn't dream of picking her.

This book is going to make the libtards squirm when it breaks records. Expect at least a dozen palin threads per day for the next 6 months as it sits at #1 on the best seller list. Hell Liberty and Tyranny is probably still in the top 10 after 6+ months.

-edit-
Nope, #28

"Twilight" was an amazingly lame movie, yet it grossed over $190 million domestic and twice that worldwide. Palin is an amazingly lame human being, so of course she'll sell millions of copies of her lame, ghostwritten, semi-fictional personal story. Why should this make liberals squirm?

Sarah Palin exists because of the stupidity of liberals. They are drawn to her like flies to shit. They just have to patch up their feelings of worthlessness by attacking and belittling her. Only a fucking moron pays any attention to a nobody from Nome. Sorry, but if Liberals had any balls they wouldn't even notice she exists. So shut up about Palin you castrated assholes.

This post is ironic.

"Approval" for what, exactly? She doesn't even have a real job of consequence! It's easy to have a high approval rating if you're not responsible for anything!

Her approval among inbred Hillbillies living in Kentucky who watch the 700 Club religiously.

Its pretty hard to get outraged about the contention that poor ole Sarah Palin is discriminated against because she is being ACCUSED of lying in her book called Going Rouge.

Not when fact check and a pile of other organizations have PROVED she is lying the bulk of the time.

And its also hard for me to buy the contention that because she will make a bunch of money on the book, that money made and the resulting name recognition is an accurate measure of the potential votes she will get as a candidate for political office.
