Why did Newsweek choose THAT photo?
"an Editors Note at Runner’sWorld.com: “On the cover of this week’s issue of Newsweek is a photo that was shot for the August 2009 issue of Runner’s World , in which Sarah Palin was featured on the monthly ‘I’m a Runner’ back page. Runner’s World did not provide Newsweek with the image. Instead, it was provided to Newsweek by the photographer’s agency, without Runner’s World’s knowledge or permission.”"
Probably for several reasons.
She looks pretty hot and it will draw the eye and sell copies.
They thought it would piss her off and get her talking about it which would make it more high profile and it would sell more copies.
They were making a joke about her "running" for president.
They were showing that she's a self-promoter who will do photoshoots in workout clothes knowing it would get her attention.
Ultimately it was likely to sell more copies. But the one thing it likely isn't is sexist given that it was 2 women who picked out the photo.
But Palin was picked in large part by the McCain campaign because of her looks and her sex, trying to tap into disaffected HRC supporters. I don't know if that's sexist, but it's clearly playing the gender card.
