Here's the video ...

Go find the Today Show video --- Palin effectively calls Letterman a pedophille.

"People are naive to think it's not Williow"

"Letterman contributes to the acceptance of abuse of young women."

"It would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman ... take it however you want to take it."

Jebus, people - it was a joke directed at Alex Rodriguez. Palin has to up the ante to keep herself relevant in her quest for the highest elective office in the US.

She's just now taking this "how dare you" attitude to be self righteous about it, when I agree with other's here that she's about as guilty of exploiting her children as he is of making fun of the wrong one.

And if your favorite (hated) conservative had said something similar about Michelle Obama (and her kids), or anyone else that the media liked, no amount of apologizing by said conservative would be deemed sufficient. He'd have been fired the next day and the shrieking on this board by the usual suspects would reach epic proportions. Letterman's a desperate hasbeen looking to get back in the news. OK, people wanna hate Palin, that's their right - no biggie, but there are certain levels of decorum that should be maintained.

Letterman apologized and Palin should have rose above the event and made some larger comment and turned this bad into a good.

Something like:
"Mr Letterman has a apologized and I accept his apology. I think it is time in this country that we stop using the children and families of politicians as punch lines for jokes. My daughters are going about living their lives just like every other American teenage and deserve better than to be made fun of for a few cheap laughs."

BTW did Leterman ever crack jokes about Chelsea?
"We have just learned Chelsea got an intern position today, no word on whether she will be sitting behind a desk or on her knees under the desk"

I am sure a joke like that would have been ignored by the media too.

I'm not sure if he did or not, it wouldn't surprise me if he did though. Chelsea Clinton got hit pretty hard while she was in the White House.

Letterman didn't (as far as I know), but others did.

" On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, 'Did you know there's a White House dog?' Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.

When viewers objected, he claimed, in typical Limbaugh fashion, that the gag was an accident and that without his permission some technician had put up the picture of Chelsea -- which was about as disgusting as his original attempt at humor."

I think the point still being missed here was that it was a joke about A-ROD, not Palin's daughter (whichever you want to believe he was referring to).

Oh, so if the joke had used Obama's daughter instead, it would still ahve been okay, cause after all, it was only a joke, and it was really directed at Rodriguez. I got ya. You are usually at least decent when it comes to at least thinking about an issue, but I can't believe you try to justify Letterman in any way. Palin may not be reacting in the best way possible, but that is no justification for Letterman.

Letterman was aiming for a double hit; he wanted to slam A-Rod and Palin. You're rationalizing as much as anyone else here.

Justify it to yourself by saying it was about the 18 year old, and maybe it was intended to be, but who was at the game. Even if that was how the joke was intended, he should be intelligent enough to know that it could easily be interpreted to mean the other daughter. While I think she would have been better off to simply ignore the SOB, she has every right to be upset. Whether Dave wrote the joke himself or not, even he wouldn't apologize for it, not even admitting it would be easy to take the joke as referring to the 14 year old, since she was the one at the game.

Letterman has been a talk show host for nearly 30 years, so it's not as though we have no history with which to gauge what he said. There is, simply put, nothing in his background that would suggest in any way that he would joke about statutory rape. (As an aside, your post refers to a joke about "rape of a 14-year-old girl," and I do not regard rape and statutory rape as fungible - the difference is readily illustrated by the fact that both Sarah Palin and her daughter became pregnant while less than 18.)

I find it bizarre and nonsensical to simply ignore Letterman's explanation of this joke, which is essentially what you're doing. I don't blame Sarah Palin for being protective of her daughter, but I blame her for making a mountain out of a molehill for solely political reasons. This is much ado about nothing.

I could agree that this may be true from an intent point of view, but sorry, most people aren't lawyers. You sound like his defense lawyer. We need to look at his personal history, any mitigating circumstances, try to figure out a way to spin this so he doesn't look bad. Most people are just looking at the circumstances at hand, and drawing a conclusion. The joke was about Palin and her daughter at a baseball game. The daughter at the game was 14. Letterman refuses to even acknowledge that the joke could be interpreted that way.

I don't think someone making a joke about you 14 year old getting laid by a professional baseball player is a molehill. You apparently do. You continue to try to rationalize it. Regardless of who the intended target was, it is obvious it could be interpreted as referring to the 14 year old. He won't even acknowledge it. Instead, he makes further jokes of the matter.

I was just reminded of her 'Obama palling with terrorists' speeches to chants of 'KILL HIM'.

So . . . what? What is it you're looking for here? I don't really think I'm defending Letterman (though I have no problem with what he said) - I am more annoyed with Palin's willingness to "defend" her daughter by exploiting her to generate press ops. She is just a ridiculous person. Letterman is paid to be a comic - he doesn't purport to be a great political mind - but Palin maintains she's qualified to be the Vice President of the United States. It seems to me she has some obligation not to act like a complete idiot if she wants to be taken seriously. I simply don't think she has the mental horsepower to do so.

Do you agree with Governor Palin that it's "naive" to believe he was talking about the 18-year-old Bristol? Do you agree he poses a threat to her younger daughter?

This is just a ploy by Palin's camp to garner more publicity. In a sense she's exploiting her own daughter.
Yeah...Palin's obviously the 'bad guy' here....exploiting her own daughter...wow.
Well it depends how you'd categorize a Mother who'd use this opportunity to publicize herself. All it's doing is drawing attention to her, her daughters and Letterman. If she'd gone through the channels and contacted CBS about I'm sure they would have put her in touch with Letterman and all this could have been dealt with with little or no publicity at all. of course it'd be a missed opportunity for her and as we have seen she never bypasses any opportunity to promote herself.

Can't wait till we can start talking about fucking the obama daughters right? Mmm brown sugar!

I say that in jest, as it's distasteful as hell. Clinton's kids, Bush's Kids, Palin's kids, Obama's kids, leave them alone for chrisssakes.

I don't see why anyone with common sense wouldn't even bother to care whether Palin was at the game, let alone which daughter she brought with her, and it comes off rather creepy-stalkerish for you to assume otherwise.

I avoid threads with titles which mention Palin in general, and only clicked on this one because I appreciate Letterman.

If I recall correctly, Palin has a daughter who not only got 'knocked up' but now represents herself as an 'Ambassador for Abstinence' after proclaiming abstinence is 'Not Realistic at All'

You are playing a strawman, dude. When one of the Obama children are 'knocked up', claim anstinence is 'not realistic at all' and then represents herself as an Ambassador for Abstinence less than one month later get back to me and we will discuss it.

what would make it funny for a comedian to joke about a daughter of Palin to get knocked up?

Could it of been her already prego teenage daughter that had a child and got knocked up in high school

In the last year the over/under on Letterman jokes on Alex Rodriguez is probably in the range of 100.

Here's the video ...

Go find the Today Show video --- Palin effectively calls Letterman a pedophille.

"Letterman is endorsing the statutory rape of women."

"People are naive to think it's not Williow"

"Letterman contributes to the acceptance of abuse of young women."

"It would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman ... take it however you want to take it."

Does Obama have a daughter with an out-of-wedlock child?

does he have a daughter known for associating with (and almost married the son of) known druggies?

If the answer to those questions is NO, then your analogy just doesn't hold water.

So the ability to make jokes about under age children is whether or not they've messed up? Or is it the political party of their parents?

Doc Savage Fan is a Propagandist who edits others posts to eliminate content that strikes directly at the heart of his lame obfuscating arguments.

That would make Doc the King of Fallacy and a republican.
