It is a highly progressive and business-oriented magazine. Their articles are top-notch in every sense of the word and their surveys are must reads for the subject they're covering. In fact, the Economist is so good that I actually look for mistakes in their predictions and assessments after the fact. Strangely, their articles do not name the author. This must be a cultural thing because I remember the Financial Times didn't either until a couple of years ago.

If you want a magazine that deals with the political economy, finance, science, technology, and the arts, you won't find a better weekly magazine.

To paraphrase their slogan, they are advocates of the "extreme center".

It boggles the mind that anyone would compare one who made to President Harvard Law review with someone who went to 5 or 6 colleges (including community college) to complete under graduate school.

By the way, it's not unusual in America for people to not read the newspaper, magazines, or even follow current events online. I'd say fully half of my family members take zero interest in current events. It's sad, but it's also very true. On the other hand, no one in my family is running for office.

It's safe to say that if Newt Gingrich had been answering questions instead of Palin, the answers would have been lucid, factually correct, but with the wrong conclusion.

Then she should have said as much. It would have been very easy for her to do, although that's an awful snub to her hometown newspapers while she's talking about how "Alaska is a microcosm of America" blah blah.

I don't think anyone actually believes that Palin doesn't read any newspapers or magazines. What people are doing is questioning her honesty and judgment based upon her own answers. Of all the questions to be so painfully evasive on...

my guess is she doesn't read any magazines or newspapers on a regular basis, her being a wife, soccer mom, special needs mom, governing a state, and now running for VP.

Of course, they have told multiple, coflicting stories about her acceptance (I think it's at least three).

In another, she said that she pulled her daughters together (she said her son was not consulted since he woudn't be too affected because he was going to Iraq), and asked them wehther she should accept. It's another nice family folksy tale for when it's useful, to complement the 'immediately said yes no blink' story that is handy for when she wants to look strong and determined.

The willingness to tell lies is the more important behavior, though.
