Palestinians kill 13 Israeli soldiers.

Well at least its equal opportunity now.

edit: I take that back. Its not equal opportunity, the Palestinians were not able to deny ambulance access to them. :|

<< The army says it detained 1,600 Palestinians ? of whom 84 were wanted suspects ? and seized more than 1,300 assault rifles, 387 sniper rifles, 49 anti-tank grenades, 256 machine guns, 58 bombs and 65 pounds of explosives. It also says it found 11 explosives laboratories. >>

Yikes, taking that much weaponry out of the hands of palestinian terrorists seems like solid justification for the "invasion" and sweep to me.

<< Well, at least they switched from terrorism to guerilla warfare. Don't know how long that will last. >>

that's true. i must admit, i think those guys were pretty brave.

<< edit: I take that back. Its not equal opportunity, the Palestinians were not able to deny ambulance access to them. :| >>

of course for true equal opportunity the israelis need to round up the terrorists' families and show the terrorists first-hand what a suicide bomber does to little children.

While I have no basis to say they are lying, Im skeptical of those numbers for a few reasons. If canada invaded us because we had suicide bombers in new york attacking us, Im sure they would find thousands of weapons. However, I doubt all of them were intended to be of use against canada or for terrorist purposes. Just as we have law-abiding citizens with guns, Im sure they do as well. The numbers are also probably inflated because israel has basically dismantled their police and security force. If they arrested all our cops, I'm sure canada would get many a gun as well. As for the other weapons claimed to be found, I'd like to see an outside person or agent verify those numbers. (Oh wait, they dont the media near there.

) Its its true then more power to the israelis for recovering so many weapons obviously meant to be used against them.

the palestinians are limited in the number and type of weapons they may have.

stop listening to those marxist/communist professors at your university.

Good point, police armories would account for some of the assault and sniper rifles found. Mixing legitimate and terrorist arms together to inflate the numbers weakens their message.

we do not have very many law abiding citizens with assault rifles and explosives laboratories. handguns, yes. anti-tank grenade? no.

You'll notice in the part of my response you didnt quote that I did make a distinction between the guns and the other weapons.

...and there's still no Israeli suicide bombers popping up at cafes or shopping malls

i don't think very many law abiding citizens here have any of the weapons mentioned:

1,300 assault rifles, 387 sniper rifles, 49 anti-tank grenades, 256 machine guns, 58 bombs and 65 pounds of explosives

sniper rifle is maybe the most likely.

Ok, here's my idea then. Give the palestinians a starting bankroll of $2 billion dollars a year so they can fight "properly". This would include the training and building of a trained armed forces, the outfitting of these troops with guns, grenades, machine guns, perhaps a few tanks and some nice missiles to launch.

Fair is fair right? $2 billion/year will match our contribution to israel's military each year. Or perhaps we could match to the palestinians what we have given isreal since its inception-$95 billion, in one lump sum.

If we are so committed to stopping terrorism then perhaps its just best to enable the palestinians to fight properly. No need to committ "terrorism" when you have billions in arms aid flowing to you every year. 🙂

<< Fair enough. But tell them to get it from their super-rich, oil-producing, Arab brethren. >>

Ah, but when they try to import weapons from their "brethren" israels seizes them. What to do then?

Issue a formal declaration of independence, then declare war

One problem, Israel kicked their collective asses three times before the US offered any signifigant support.

And if you don't think the surrounding Arab nations have tried supplying the Palestinians, you're mistaken. They secretly support them just enough to carry on a terrorist campaign, but not enough for full scale war. Why? Because a full scale war would quickly end this conflict and end with Palestinian refugees flooding the Arab countries.

They quicky (OK, not so quickly) found out they could not beat Israel in a conventional war. This is all they've got: A terrorist campaign linked to a spurious cry of victimhood.

And interestingly, why shouldnt the US provide the money? My theory is that it would be very easy to eliminate most of the terrorism we decry over there by just outfitting them the same way we outfit israel. Of course, that means that the ratio of jews to palestinians dead might become more even, something thats completely unacceptable.

Unacceptable to the Arab world most of all...if the number were even, how could they possibly convince anyone that Palestinians were the victims?

lol, good point. 🙂

It's been tried. These guys are financed by Iran and Syria, and are the ones who originated the suicide bomber tactic. (Damn, their site's slow..)

Suicide bombing is wrong, and in my opinion, Israel is fully justified in doing whatever they can to punish those who do it. Otherwise, imagine a world 10-20 years from now where it's no longer quite so shocking. Suicide bombing is not acceptable, and those people who glorify it and help promote the culture of hate and religious fundamentalism that produces it should be exterminated.

<< 13 Isralies got killed. Yeah the other side of the story is probably that 100 Palestinians got killed. >>

both sides confirm at least 100 were killed, the likely number is probably 50-100% higher.
