Palestinians Burn US Flags

Mandating a particular news channel for political reasons is also using an official federal government position to push a political agenda, which is against several laws that apply to civilian and military folks. I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect that official policy would frown on that sort of thing.

Seeing as how it's policy on some of the largest military bases in the world, I'm guessing they're ok with it. It likely hasn't been challenged from the outside, if I had to guess at it.

Honestly I'm just amazed that they're paying for us to have 800 direct tv channels in our offices. What official use does HBO have? The people in charge of government agencies are so out of touch with reality, they still spend money like it'll never run out. :|

I must confess I'm not in the military, but you're telling me that you have 800 channels and Fox News is the only news channel available as a result of official policy? That doesn't sound quite right to me...

Does anyone really believe it's realistic to try to force the issue from coming up in the hopes that it will just go away? Clearly there is a problem in that region, and clearly there is a conflict that I feel like people aren't just going to forget about. I'm not sure what the issue is, but keeping Pandora's box closed doesn't seem like a very good long term solution.
My refrain is not the Palestinians but Lemon Law

Fair enough. I'm just saying, I think that one way or another, the Palestinian issue will have to be resolved at some point down the road, sooner or later.

Eventually it will be; it will be up to the Palestinians themselves when.

As long as they are willing to be lapdogs for others' egos; they will get no where.
They need to start thinking for themselves and deciding to act as a nation rather than a group of puppets being played by puppet masters with a grudge.

funny how everyone works for some branch of the armed forces here :\
as an ex-general of the 19st brigade of the US Navy Corps, i am highly offended by the burning of our flag. 🙁

Listen here Abbas, you and your flunkies better get your shit straight if you want to have a state with what little's left of your land.

What bases are these? I've never been to a base that mandated Fox News, ever. They have regulations that prohibit some channels, but I never once saw a requirement for Fox.

Regardless of that, I find it interesting that everyone jumps all over the Palestinians for undertaking a meaningless anti-US activity, immediately calls for their defunding or whatever. Israel has committed any number of far more serious acts, yet calls to cut them loose are often dismissed as anti-Semitism or whatever. Silliness.

fact that Obama was for Palestinian Statehood before he was against it. Now the question is what price Obama and the USA will have to pay for our pandering to only Israeli interests.

WRONG.

Obama AND ISRAEL are not against a palestinian state. they are; however, against a unilateral declaration of statehood in the UN without negotiations with Israel first.

No, I think if I were unhappy with the situation I'd either give up and go live in Israel or if I really hated America and Israel I'd get some weapons or explosives and a plan. Instead of burning flags, crying in the street and throwing rocks. But then, the Palestinians wouldn't be in the spot they're in if they weren't pussies and terrible fighters.

We'd have to be crazy to cut off the Israelis after they showed us what they were capable of during the USS Liberty attack. It's like deciding you're going to stop paying protection money to the biggest guy around: he'll kick the shit out of you.
Who's the pussy now, pussy.

I agree with Nebor that the US should cut the $400 million per year aid to the Palestinian immediately, and so as the $2775 million per annum to the Israeli. The Israelis did a lot more than just burning US flags, such as the USS Liberty attack, Jonathan Pollard, and deceptions.

ohh...boohoooo deal with it....

Very misleading statistic.

The poll first says that 57% of Israelis oppose the UN recognizing Palestinian statehood.

The 69% is the number who would "accept" the UN's recognition if it comes anyway over the objection of Israel. However, "acceptance" doesn't mean any territorial concessions. It is, rather, the start of a negotiation for some, and no territorial change at all for others:

If indeed the UN recognizes a Palestinian state, 69% of the Israelis think Israel should accept the decision and either start negotiations with the Palestinians about its implementation (34%) or not allow any change on the ground by the Palestinians (35%). 27% believe Israel should oppose the decision, of them 16% think it should intensify the construction in the settlements; 7% - that it should annex to Israel the PA territory, and 4% - that it should invade the PA and use force in order to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.

What the polling shows is consistent with other polls re: Israeli opinion on the Palestine issue. They oppose statehood being imposed from some outside third party. They want to negotiate territory. Few favor annexation, intensification of settlements, invasion or other hardline approaches.

Not bases, posts specifically. Fort Benning, Fort Sill, Fort Hood and Fort Polk. Usually all the TVs have a sign taped over the controls that says, "Persuant to garrison command policy XXXX, this television will not be changed off of Channel XXX FOX News."

Honestly I think the more pressing issue is why we're paying for so many satellite\cable tv subscriptions. I can understand in the dining facilities, gyms and rec facilities, but in every office building? We do have internet for news and whatnot...

I would think that is in the common areas, in private quarters I would think they can watch what ever they want.

Correct. Though the prices charged by the (monopoly) cable company to junior soldiers in the barracks for cable\internet are criminal. $120 a month for cable and internet for someone making $18k a year... Also they're not allowed to share the internet, that's stealing, and they can and have gotten in trouble for it.

The guy holding the flag looks mexican to me. I'll wait til he's unmasked to determine if it's really a Palestinian.

This. The difference of course is a strong lobby and presence in govt.

They probably just got finished watching ' Zohan ' which I think is one of Adam Sandlers most funny movies ever made.

In which the villain played by famed boxing announcer Michael Buffer hires some red neck goons headed by none other than Dave Matthews of Dave Matthews band fame. The rednecks dress up as Palestinians to set fire to israeli businesses in order to get them to fight with eachother.

I think it's very plausible a similar thing is happening here. I wouldn't put it past Israelis to send a guy w\ his face covered to burn a US flag in a public area at such a crucial time for the Palestinian state. They've surely done far more complex and devious things in the past both in the US and other places.

Or it could just be some angry guy burning a US flag because of our unquestioning support of everything Israel does.

I caught this story on the news at work (don't bash me, we're only allowed to watch FOX News.)

Really just warms the cockles of your heart to see how grateful the Palestinians are for the ~$400 million in US aid we give them every year. We even warned them that their aid would be endangered and their diplomatic offices closed if they put in a UN statehood bid. And they react by burning our flag.

You think the avg palastinian knows about that 400 million? And if they do, do they see any of it? Or is that 400 million going into buying cheap rockets to launch at Israel? And in return that 400 millions gets their house bulldozed or blown up in retaliation for a rocket hitting an Israeli school bus.

can't you get internet access unbundled? if you can then that is what I would do and then subscribe to netflix, hulu or whatever.

I'm not sure. I was just in disbelief when 2 soldiers (roommates) told me they each had to have separate internet service accounts. :|

this is very true - the leadership siphons off the funds and does not let the people know where the funds are coming from. This allows the locals to believe they are being supported by the Arab brothers; propoganda and control of the masses.
