What are your thoughts on the Painkiller demo? If you don't already have it, here's a link to the Nzone to get it. Nzone I was suprised it actually ran so well on my system, pretty cool game, the details really stick out.

I think it's freaking gross, and way to repetitive for my tastes. It's the same crap, over and over.

Graphics and physics are neat, also how smooth it plays. Besides that...I don't care for it.

I agree, the little wooden stake shooter gets kind of boring, but if all new 1st person shooters look like that, we are in for a real treat :) I can't believe I can set all video options to high on 1024/768 with no aa/af, and it runs o SO smoothly. Mabye my system will carry me a bit longer than I anticipated.

only finished through the first level, graphics kick arse. I like the atmosphere. Plays like a beat-em-up with a wood thing as your weapon. Pretty sick, looks like the guys rip their scrotums out and try and hit you with them.

The PAIN engine is the best I have seen yet. Unparalleled in physics and everything in the environment can be interacted with. A piece of wood lying on the ground will react to you walking over it. Granted the game is a bit graphic, but the incredible detail in every aspect of the game, charectars, weapons and interactivity is unmatched. I am liking the primary "gauntlet shredder" type weapons alternate fire. Very unique weapon.

Thumbs up. :wine: ..Plays decently on my buds 5600U with reduced res and quality, but he only has a 1Ghz PIII holding him back. He is upgrading to Prescott 2.8 and 865PE board just for this game.

Plays like butter (70FPS with a lot of baddies to 110 FPS with just a few baddies according to FRAPS) on my 2.8P4 865PE 1GB 5900U at 1280x1024 all settings maxed including driver forced AA and AF quality settings.

April 12th I will be picking this one up from my local Best Buy.

I like the combo-fire of the nailgun/electric weapon. Zap someone with secondary, and while holding 2nd, use primary fire. Shocking! :Q :D

It is the same one Valve has licensed to use in HL2.

The graphics of the game are impressive and I am sure the technology behind it all is advanced, but the delivery of it was just over the top. The way it was done with this zombies ripping off body parts and throwing them at you is just dumb. It looks to me like some junior-high kids idea of a game that would be shocking to his parents. It's gore for the shock value and (seemingly) not for any other purpose.

It played great on my system (3.2Ghz/1GB/9800Pro) and the physics are awesome. But it sort of reminded me of Serious Sam with the way the baddies spawn and how many of them there are. Now if Painkiller has coop that would kick arse. Kudos to SS and SS2 for including coop! :D

If it uses the same engine does that mean that HL2 will play just as well? sorta? I tried the demo which played flawlessly (except for the crash to desktop error) on my 9800 Pro so I am hoping it plays just as well on my 5950 Ultra. I like this game and may end up buying it, I like the evil feel to it and that pentacle during the loading but only because Ive never played a game so evil xcept for Doom. Its a great role to play killing off evil and all so I like it.

It only uses the same physics engine, the graphics engines are still different.

I like it, & it's only a Demo, the full game won't be as boring at all, i'm guessing.

No, no it doesn't. It just takes you getting your panties in a bunch over some digital gore. Did the zombies give you nightmares, or did the witch just remind you of your Mommy? :p

I just tried it.
Fun, fast action, adrenaline pumping game :)
I love it just like how I loved serious sam :)

I don't see how this game has too much gore either. I've seen worse plenty of times. SOFII, RtCW, UT, just to name a few.

its alright... i love the interactive enviroment and the ability to shoot em where u want.. but it is extremely repetitive... really boring after 10 + min of figuring out how to play with everything. THe graphics are amazing as well, and smooth

Painkiller is...
...the first game to whack my CeleronT 1300. At least it slowed down without constant swapping. I thought it's a bullet time effect when I saw the second level.
Fortunately, I got a 2.8C last week and now the game runs without any slowdowns on the old GF3.
Considering the graphics and physics of the game, the hardware requirements are understandable.

This game is fun. A lot of people complain about repetitiveness. The demo is not all that diverse, but all levels are from the same chapter. The full version will have 20+ levels, so I hope there will be at least 5-6 different environments, not just dark, medieval towns and ruins.

I really thought the palace level was OUTSTANDING, not too gory, good SFX, incredible detail, and there were so many of those soldiers to kill, it kept you busy, plus the fireworks were neat too :) I had to tone down a few things to get the gaurdian level to work well though. :(
