Could you post any markings that are on the outside of the packaging? Like if the serial number is printed on the outside, could you post the first several digitals: 85687874xxx (just block out the last 2-3 digits if you want to). Or if it has a HL2 sticker offer on the front, or any other useful identification. Thanks.

Two sentences after where you quoted him he said it has the hl2 sticker....

If you don't want to take your chances, you can always get a 9600 PRO directly from ATI through their trade-up program for $149. Only problem is, there is no way to know if you will get the HL2 coupon, or not. Porbably not.

9600s are slower. They are all 128 bit bus, the SE *should* be 64 bit. The 9700 was 256bit as was the 9500 and the 9800s.

After I read that it has 64-bit memory I was going to exchange it for a PRO but I needed a video card tonight so I thought I would just use it untill the weekend. To my suprise and delight when I opened the box I noticed that the sticker on the card noted a 9600PRO. Using Clock Rate the default core is reported as 420 and mem at 324. This was an unopened package with the HL2 coupon enclosed.

Now it's time to overclock this puppy!

BTW, what is the Serial # from the top of the box?

Just bought 3, each one has the HL 2 sticker on the box.
The UPC codes all say 9600 PRO(on the card itself) however I haven't installed them yet.

S/N are as follows
180339011XXX-01
180336008XXX-01
180339011XXX-01

There is a fan on the card.

Now we are talking.. so the cards itself says 9600 PRO? Many thanks for the serial # list!

BTW, the ones with the 9600 PRO, does it have passvie cooling, or is there indeed a fan on the cards? [Edit, I don't mean you Oakenfold.. I mean the others that had the good luck.]

If you install the 3.7 cat drivers on a 9800NP your display settings say 9800PRO, but if you run Riva Tuner or something similar it will show the true clock speeds are NP not PRO. Might be the same for the 9600. Might just be the driver he is using. If you get the card download Riva Tuner and report back your clock speeds.

:p No he didn't, you're a little confused:

Looks to me like his reported default clock timings of 420/648 (324 DDR) are nowhere close to 9600np timings of 325/400 (200 DDR), match up well with 9600 Pro stock timings of 400/600 (300 DDR). In fact, his current reported timings of 480/654 are actually closer to 9600XT timings (500/600) than to 9600 Pro timings!

I posted two sets of numbers, one before OC'ing and the stable numbers after from the aida32 program. 480 core (anything much above that and Aquamark3 will lock the machine) and 324 mem (648). It will do 330 but I get texture shimmering.

BTW the box had the HL2 sticker and I'm pretty sure the SN starts in the 18033 range (I'll double check when I get home). Also, mine has a cooling fan.

You're extra confused. I didn't mention clock speeds. I was responding to akaricke who said the person I quoted earlier in the thread gave certain information, but didn't. But I guess you just like responding to messages when you don't bother to read. :p

edit: BTW, all the 9600 SE at the local BB were 1803400xxxx. :(

My Bro just called me, and I had him read off some #'s, and he saw *1* 180339xxxx box, the rest are 18043-46 so I told him to snag the 39 one.

In the car, he opened it, and it DOES have a fan on it (looking good so far), the Back of the card DOES say RAGEON 9600 PRO 128M.
Now I have him read off the part # on the back, and... it is
RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB AGP VGA DVI-I TVOUT 113A03407100!

So it looks like 180339xxxxx series are the radeon 9600 Pro cards!

P.S, he said in the package, all there was is a HL coupon, the manual & CD, and that is it... it don't have the cable for the TV-out or a DVI <->VGA connector gizmo?

Is this what everyone else is getting, no extra cables?

Oh, while looking at newegg, this is a pic of a 9600 PRO card, so maybe those of you that got it can compare that way also.
I will be doing that in about 45 mins :) I guess this also answer my Q about the cables, it don't look like the 9600 PRO retail comes with cables either. Hmmm

9600 pro Image from Newegg

Yet another update. Now that I see the card, it does *NOT* look like that one from Newegg. It Does look *exactly* like this though, and there is also a review on this site also.:
real 9600 pro from Legit reviews

Am I missing something? You can get an oem 9600pro for about the same price off pricewatch. Why is everyone so excited over this? I know that this is the retail version, but that's not that big of a deal. Is everyone excited because of the free hl2 coupon?

No, not really. The ones I have seen on Pricewatch are NOT *Built by ATI* They are the other OEM partners (Not that there is anything really wrong with that mind you). The Retail package from ATI, the lowest is $148. The others do NOT come with a coupon for HL.

So the advantage is A)Local store. B)30 day return NO RESTOCK FEE. c) same day shipping (add $40 for that option on shipping for online ;)).

Oh, and I guess D) the free hl2 coupon. heh.
