Packets to bytes?

Lemon law

Lifer
I have set up a very simple and secure home net work---just two win XP computers, microsoft internet sharing, and connected by nothing but a cat5e cable. With a software fire wall on each computer---and other security measures it works well.

Being the non host on the lan, I note my connections and downloads from the internet is denominated in packets---while the host computer---as it connects to the internet reports all connections in bytes---something I understand.

How do I covert packets to bytes---or get my conenctions as the non-host computer to be reported in bytes?

This is a function of the driver (to display packets or bytes). No way for you to change it, and since a packet can contain a varying amount of data (bytes) there is no reliable way to convert it on the fly.

Thank you Rilex for a prompt and full reply,

Bottom line---I am screwed---lucky for you I am not Greek---nor do I believe in killing the bearer of bad news--so thanks.

If you haven't already, you could upgrade your NIC drivers. I know Intel went from packets in the 2000 days to bytes in the XP/2003 days.

The Nic on my computer is an on motherboard thing and the mother board is a Ashrock dual sata2---but I am still using tcp/ip---would I need to upgrade to Tcp/ip ver 6?

But great idea---thanks again.---and I'll check into the NIC drivers on both XP computers on my lan.
