Great movie to watch in IMAX in 3D. Doubt it would be worth it on an IPad, like everyone seems to watch them these days.

why are we even discussing plausibility here? it's a movie of giant robots punching monsters. that can be barely called sci-fi. it's basically live action anime. i thought it was a fun movie with cool music.

Was kind of silly they didn't use the sword to begin with. Apparently, even a pocket knife was good enough to cut through their skin. It's even sillier that they built the robots at all since they could have just blasted they with liquid nitrogen.

Still a good action movie though.

They just sit around punching monsters. Wow, great job, then after everybody gets their asses kicked we finally bring out the huge sword chainsaw that can kill the monsters pretty easily.

They stated at the beginning of the movie that the Kaiju blood is laden with ammonia and is heavily toxic to the environment. So, it makes sense that they want to avoid spilling it. It was a little silly that they made the characters act like they forgot about it (they probably never use it because of the aforementioned issue), but they could have said something about it not mattering as much since they're in the upper atmosphere.

It was great until I read a website afterwards that said it was dumb because it would be easier to kill the monsters with a railgun from space than fight them....

Given that a railgun is a large piece of metal being dropped from space, wouldn't that have a potential to cause a rather large amount of damage to the surrounding area? Remember the railgun in G.I. Joe 2, which is probably where they got the idea from? 😛 Also, how do you propose to keep it locked onto the Kaiju the whole time? Even if you can make it adjust its course like missiles do with their fins, can you guarantee that the hive-mind capability of the Kaiju won't just be able to realize that the railgun munition is coming and dodge it much closer to when the ordinance is about to hit?

honest trailer was great. pretty sure i'd have to be paid to watch this movie. not much though. about $20/hour would be fine.

not like eat pray love, which would be a flat $3000.

movie deleivered: giant robots fighting giant aliens

Not much more than directly engaging the monster in that area Godzilla-style.

Plus you don't need a huge piece of metal. Just a big enough one going at a fast enough velocity through monster brain.

Also, how do you propose to keep it locked onto the Kaiju the whole time?

Just dig up Star Wars from the 80-90s and mix with a railgun:

Easier than building huge fighting robots.

Brilliant Pebbles (from link above) was designed to take a missile out of the sky. The monsters are huge targets, no way they they can dodge shots coming in at Mach 7:

Railgun + Reagan = Dead monsters without ripping off Gundam

Would have been a boring movie though.

The real reason they went with robots instead of nukes or the railgun

...and after the U.N. apparently watched a ton of anime...

it's pretty much a live action anime so I accepted it as such and liked the movie despite it's flaws and sometimes ridiculous decisions by characters.

This was pretty much my feeling. I didn't go in expecting awesome story, drama, and revelations that would make my mind explode. I went in think I was going to watch a silly movie about giant robots punching giant aliens with some garbage character development thrown in the mix. The movie delivered as promised and I was quite well appeased.

Dammit all this talk about giant robots fighting giant monsters makes me want to watch a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters. Time to pop in Rocky IV.

I expected a lot more because of the director.

Pacific Rim was good. One complaint was that the fight scenes seemed drawn out. I don't like drawn out fight scenes. They could have had a few smaller fight scenes showing powerups leading to the final fight. For example, they barely win vs a mach4, get a huge upgrade from some supertech, then go on to beat up on the mach4 like nothing. That sets the stage for the Mach5 battle.

saw it, enjoyed it, can't wait for sequels 🙂
big fucking robots fighting aliens, exactly as advertised

Fucking awesome movie. If you're watching it on a 32" TV with the built in speakers, it would be hard to enjoy. It's all about the spectacle.
And to all the "why didn't they just kill them with..." commenters - "Why didn't the eagles just fly Frodo to Mount Doom".
IT'S A FUCKING MOVIE.

Yeah, same. Hellboy 1&2 are both stupid movies, but they are awesome; great action, decent stories, and funny too. The humour in this one was really bad and the action was boring. Felt like I was watching a Michael Bay movie. 🙁

<3 ATOT. I'd love to see a post-mortem deconstruction of a Skinemax Boobie-porn:

"That just couldn't happen. If he really went to the wrong door to deliver that large pizza with extra sausage, then the people who were really supposed to get it would call his boss and he would get fired"

"No not necessarily, I worked at a pizza place so I know"

Personally it was like that Honest Trailers said.. "It was either an awesome dumb movie, or a dumb awesome movie" and "it was really stupid but man I can't wait for the squeal."

I liked it. Watched it a second time last week with my kid, still thought it was a good flick for what it is.
