ok I need your help ive narrowed my choice to these two monitors

first off my needs, please bear with me.

ill never use 3d
my video card will do 60fps with max everything at 1080p but I wont be doing 120fps or 144fps
I don't want to hack my monitor to use 2d lightboost
I play all types of games and really want the best quality with the least lag, im not a competitive gamer I don't care what my kill ratio is in bf4 which is only one of my many games, rts, rpg, mmo etc.

So for general gaming use, non 3d, at 60fps please tell me would you recommend me getting the true 8bit ips or the super fast tn.

thanks for all whos helped me, I feel one of these monitors will suit my needs, and with your help ill get the right one

If you are willing to put up with the cost and like high image quality how about the Eizo FG2421? It's uses a native 120hz VA panel.

If you are against even trying all the features that make the VG248QE great, then just get the IPS monitor.

Yeah I am having a hard time seeing OP's logic here if they aren't going to make use of higher refresh, 3D.

+1

I love my VG248QE but only because of the 120hz Lightboost capability.

The Strobelight "hack" for 2D Lightboost or 3D Lightboost on AMD cards is extremely easy to use. Run the program once, set the refresh/strobe modes, and you're good to go.

Actually let me amend my previous post to say that if OP thinks they will upgrade their card to eventually break 60fps then it's not necessarily bad to "overbuy" a monitor now in anticipation of upgrading the video card later.

For me, I will lower settings to get higher FPS. I will stop lowering settings once I hit 75-80 FPS. At that point, games feel very responsive to me. Often times, max settings are barely noticeably better than high settings. Less noticeable than the higher FPS.

Its not all just about the frame rate in the game. The motion blur even just set on 120hz is a dramatic reduction compared to an IPS monitor. I play plenty of games around 60 fps but I still get the benefits of a more responsive panel that has a lot less motion blur.

my video card wont go much over 770gtx 60 frames per second and I don't plan on upgrading for some time, so newer games ill be below 60 frames per second, so I may as well go better image quality because that ill always use

Definetly go IPS, I had the same dilemma when I was building my rig over this past summer and I went the 144hz TN route, and with the videocard I have I dont even bother playing over 60hz, right about now I wish I got one of the 1200p dell ultrasharp IPSs. Judging by your needs you should be happier with the superior image quality of the IPS.

This is the answer to all "suggest me a new monitor" questions.

IPS is great, but the black levels are atrocious. IPS gets to a dull gray, not black.

How about a Dell U2413 instead? It's the same panel as the PA248Q, but Dell's monitor has a game mode that offers significantly lower input lag than any of the Asus's modes.

According to tftcentral, the PA248Q uses the same panel as the U2412M, not the U2413.

I'm trying to decide between the two models now.
