He lies! Don't listen! ;)

Their computers are set to periodically check the forums for certain keywords. Then, upon finding them, sounds an audible alarm that wakes them up from their daily dreams/nightmares and they must get up to answer the forums.

Scarry, huh? :Q

ROTFLMAO !

hey i hope he does write better moboard "overclocking" reviews. all he needs todo is read the questions that get reposted over and over and over in these forums.

"does it have agp/pci lock?"

"does it have memory ratios and at what fsb speeds are they available?"

"does USB work while overclocked?"

"what vcore/vdimm is available?"

'is it acurate?"

etc etc etc

ill be honest - im thinking websites are being banned from providing ANY overclocking information :Q
thats how bad it is out there.
either that or they forgot how to overclock! ive had 3 1.6As and they ALL went 166fsb on less than 1.75v. how tough can it be ;)

To tell you the truth Thugs, the majority of our readers don't overclock. The opinions of the AnandTech forums members here don't necessarily represent the general opinions of the majority of the people who read AnandTech reviews. Barely half of AnandTech's forum members overclock, and these forums have some of the most dedicated computer enthusiasts out there.

Other hardware review web sites and forums have similar issues to deal with.

Evan Lieb ~ yea i know
but im only interested in my own selfish needs :D

besides - if you dont give overclockers something to read - you wont have overclocking readers ;)

I'd say it's more like less than 25% (if you count OT and Hot Deals). I believe the rabid O/C'ers were given their own forum because of the "clutter" in General (and notice, we have to share it with "CPU/Processors") :disgust:

:D

If I have time - I have been gathering O/C'ing P4 FAQs from these forums and others - I might try and put something together. However, don't hold your breath as my opinion is in the minority here - I am considering O/C'ing with the Asus P4T533(no 'C') and 32 bit RDRAM depending on it's pricing (it's "supposed" to be bundled with 512 MB hi-perf Samsung for ~ $300) . . . we'll see. . . . :)

I have high hopes for Evan Lieb
To please everyone, mobo reviews should be well rounded. Features, stability, performance testing including other systems besides CPU/mem such as IDE performance are important. I would like to at least see oveclocking features get a mention. Things like Vcore, VDIMM range, PCI/AGP lock or adjustability, mem ratio support would be nice.

Oh yeah, for the "where can I find a purple motherboard" crowd, you can have some pretty color pictures for them too. ;)

Instead of one person writing it why not have everyone contribute? Just start a sticky thread where everyone can post their knowledge (what works, what doesn't & why, etc. etc) and where others can post additional insight on previous posts. This way, the knowledge accumulates, questions are asked & responses "fixed", etc. until we have a "final" version. Someone would have to moderate the thread to make sure that no one craps it or gets off on a tangent. At some point, this could be edited into a complete FAQ document.

Evan Lieb is a great and knowledgeable guy (he used to be AGodSpeed here on the forums). I doubt I will be disappointed with his reviews/roundups.

Back to topic yea I noticed this. Its about time someone did a article like this. The big thing is they benchmarked stuff and did some tests, something that no other site has.

anyone notice a problem with their benchmarking in the guide... how on page 8 the 1.6a @ 2.29 barely defeats the 1.8a @ 1.8
something doesn't seem right there...
not only does the overclocked processor have a huge speed difference, but it also has a faster fsb...
other than the benchmarks and the crap about the boards (they should have picked one board... and then just made a table of the pro/cons of the chipsets.)
i really didn't learn to much from there article... but then again i didn't expect to, not much that i didn't already know in there...

There's nothing wrong with the benchmarking. If you read the article thoroughly you will see that some of the processors were tested on the 645DX and the rest are on the i845D

THUGSROOK, if you wrote a guide, maybe Anand would run your guide as an article! I'd be glad to proofread it if you made one. I introduced, edited, and concluded the Learn About Team AnandTech article that Anand was kind enough to run back in Dec. 2000.

At the very least, it could be added to the FAQ. Think of all the time it would save you in the end... "Hi newbie, go here and read this, it answers all your questions and then some :D"

;)

mechBgon im not a good writter. ive tried compiling a FAQ just to relieve some of the constant questions being asked in the forums. it wasnt too good :(

take a looksee at my threads - im like freakin Joe Friday ..."just the facts". i dont even post an opinion anymore!

even just trying to make a FAQ that would point ppl to certain threads would be a huge undertaking.
its a great idea, but a huge task.

how about a sticky that just says "USE THE SEARCH FEATURE NEWBIE!!!" ;)

ROFL! :D Well, keep in mind that I'm willing to edit for style, speeling, etc. if you wanted to make FAQ content for Andy. I edited Paul Mazzucco's The Fundamentals of Cache and another of his articles, which involved some of the most difficult hyphenation situations I've ever dealt with :D and also called for some editing for style/clarity. Not being an expert on the subject, I made a good guinea pig/devil's advocate, and the same goes for a P4 guide.

Yeah I stoped reading after there absurd logic of not even including the Via P4400(now days its 400) in the testing, there excuse not fully supported, LOL.
Since when has Intel supported Overclocking, ROFLMAO.
Sure Sharky just call Intel to ask for help when your having a problem overclocking =P

If we could get consensus on which threads have the best/most info, and if a Mod can send me a file of these threads (delimited with the poster, the date & the text message), I (along with anyone else who wants to help - umm hint, hint 7757524) can go through them & pull out the "good stuff". This can then be circulated among a core group for review & further editing or posted for general review.

hehe no no, he means he would like to "edit the threads" for better reading pleasure ;)

(my threads could sure use it - i compile all on topic info into my main posts, but there is so much good off topic info in there thats its almost pathetic! my p4b266 thread is over 425 replies long! would take a few hours to read all of it)

7757524 - hes askin you for help, not being mean to you ;)

<<<Considering performance, stability, and availability factors, along with full support for the 133/533 MHz FSB and DDR333, the natural recommendation is a motherboard based on the SIS 645DX chipset.>>>

I am sorry but this is a load of crock...I have an i845d and I have 333mhz support as well as 400mhz support with 3:4 ratio...

Also as I have and thugs and about a dozen or so I have talked to or helped can state the sis645 and sis645dx mobos do not oc as well as alot of the asus and epox i845d mobos...That is fact!!!

sis645 past about 142 is dicey...sis645dx seems to be a bit better like 150....Find me a whole lot of boards that run stable at 166-175fsb like this epox....

Also I get better memory scores with this board using more conservative timings and running memory abour 21 mhz slower....After about 137 on sis board and the mem scores did not increase very well...
