Drop the P4 part so as not to confuse people who might think they can use this as a cheap P4 replacement.

Has nothing to do with P4, and is nothing like a P4, and thankfully will not work as a P4.

It is a P-M.

BTW, if used in a 533MHz board, it will easily run 1860MHz (or faster than P4 3.2GHz).

I think you have to get a special adapter to use that chip in a regular mobo, no? I might be wrong.

Too bad the mobo is too darn expensive to make this worthwhile.

think it'd be a good ebay-er?

also: will it need an adapter? it says socket 478, whereas the anandtech article uses a 479 adapter:confused:

it's a banias, not a hot deal at all

also, NOT a p4 and NOT socket 47 (it has 478 pins, but in different places)

You are getting the P4m Mixed up with Dothan/Centrino/Pentium M.

No he's not, the original poster got P4M mixed up with Pentium M. The cpu he linked to is a Pentium M.

these are not p4 m, these are pentium M. These are much better than the old pentium 4 M

too bad you'd probably need to spend ~$150 on motherboard/adapter to get it to run as a desktop chip - fvcking Intel... :p

hot if you can use it to upgrade a laptop...

Hm, tempting...my Vaio currently has a 1.3 Ghz Celeron-M...this would be a nice jump up in performance as well as battery life. Definitely going to think about it.

Phil,
How hard is it to install this thing on your laptop ?

I have Toshiba M55-S135 with Celeron M 370 too, so I guess this should work on my lappy too right ?

Just curious though, how much speed increase that I can expect ?
Looking at the spec, both have same bus speed and cache size.

But for 18 bucks, I guess no biggie.

Real easy, my laptop had a slot on the bottom that I opened. removed the heatsink, removed old CPU, installed new one, applied thermal paste and reinstalled heatsink, put the cover back on and voila.. new CPU :)

Spead increase: It will boot faster, Applications will load faster, Not sure by how much but I found it very notceable
