YOU think anymore of a drop??? great deal considering an AMD 2600+ may come out in the 220-240 range for an oem chip with no hsf....

Looks like in about 2 weeks I will order this thing...3ghz here I come with my 422mhz ddr

Lets recap:

the 2.533ghz and the 2600+ was for all intensive pruposes a dead heat....

the 2.533ghz p4 has oc'd to 3ghz+ with air cooling alone...the new T-bred Amd chips still are a tough oc without exotic cooling....

I think intel could win value and perfromance at this range...

Did you conquer the wacky Windows98FE bug that makes the computer freak out above 2.46GHz? Anyway, that is certainly a yummy price drop :D

The most I have conquered was run winxp most of the time...I dual boot OSes and I have no issues in winxp so I know it is a software issue. This is win98fe with no service packs installed. I wouldn't know where to begin or how long it would take to possible update the FE version or whether it would even help....

I have win98SE I need to install and I am sure there are no issues with it....Just lazy I guess!!!

My company is buying me the 3dstudio viz software and letting me put it on any machine I want...Will be doing some rendering and animation testing in that software.

ssxeon...trust me drop that volcano like a bad habit!!! POS...I tried one....

Get an alpha and a 80mm fan like ys tech that you can adjust rpm for 800-3700...veryu quiet and very effective...

My 20 avc hsf did better then the thermaltakes offer...

I also read a review after I purchase it that showed it was a lame duck as well...

Really! Damnit they are $30 .... and i wanted to change the fan speed to high for ocing and then drop the core back down the cpu speed and fan speed for everyday use. Well how are the new Thermalright AX-478's? Cuz they look tasty and for $35 and grab one with a 50cfm sunon fan. But thanx for the info :D

Somebody order one of these things and report. I want to see what pack dates are.
I'm thinking that Googlegear will probably have the best prices for awhile. They were pretty hip about the 2.26 being so popular.

Sorry for not wanting to be the guinea pig here.:D

100% wrong. revision B thoroughbred chips are showing excellent overclocking under air cooling and spectacular overclocking with water/peltier. you are thinking of the rev A 2200+.

i think the 2400+ is the sweet spot. i would not be surprised, based on the performance of 2600+, that a 2400+ (2 GHz: 15 x 133) would achieve 2.5 GHz (15 x 166) or 3200+ performance levels with premium air cooling. that is a chip that is < $197 OEM (probably $160 or so). can't wait for a KT333a mobo, errr, sorry, KT400, some decent DDR RAM, and the 2400+. will have some fun OCing with that combo =)

Hey dreamer quit finding the guys running expensive and exoctic cooling like water cooling and assuming that is the de facto ocing available...Tomshardware got a great oc but had the chip at like -41c...hardly iobtainable by most....

Xbitlabs

They used aircooling and they got 166mhz oc, and basically concluded that AMD could release a 2800+ model....

I will find more that show air cooling the system is still not giving the type of ocing like intel...GUys are taking these 2.53ghz p4b's to 3ghz level with air cooling...ONce the 2.8ghz hit the market I assume that most will be hitting 3ghz and pushing to 3.2-3.3 levels

Actually I don't want a flame thread....However I stated without exotic cooling....I still don't think I am that far of...AMD getting 200mhz oc with .13 technology at flagship chip and p4 getting 500+....

You get that system and let me know how it goes in getting to 2500mhz with "performance air cooling"!!!!;) 166fsb is where toms got it but he used water cooling and then some...LOL

EDit:

Here is another one:
overclockers.com

He says 2400mhz is doable, but then goes on to explain about the extreme heat being produced and the need for extreme cooling...He doesn't say if the 2400 is doable with 30-40 dollar air coolers or if they need higher or water...

What's the highest fsb that people with the 2.53s are attaining?

For 3Ghz exactly, you would need a fsb of at least 158? Isn't that kinda hard to get? I've got a 1.8A right now and all I can get out of this chip is 140 stable with stock hsf.

Even at 158 fsb, my Samsung 2700 would be running under spec at 1:1. But if I went 3:4 (p4b533-e), I would totally need new memory :(.

Like almost everyone, I too would like to get the 2.53 since the price dropped. Just getting an idea of what this chip will run. I swear I saw forum here that had tons of people with these chips but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I'm still waiting to see what the "average" OC on the new 2400+ and 2600+ "B" chips will be, but when the 1600+ "B" chips finally come to market, they could be some real sweet OC'ers. Presumably, coming off the same wafer as the 2400+ and 2600+ chips, they should be able to OC to atleast 2.1-2.2GHz (~2600+ speeds), if not more. That would make them the AMD OC equivilents of the 1.6As, if a few months late.

Ack! I forgot about that, I've still got Win98FE...hmmm I may be upgrading to XP sooner than I thought if the 1.8A chip I'm gonna get ends up showing serious OC potential beyond 2.46GHz...

Do me a favor and try it to see if it happens with you as well.....I mean there was always thepossibilty of acpi and other new power management issues could be causing it...

I know winxp has no issues...

Sure thing :) I think I might try it with and without all the patches.

I have a 2.53GHz P4 running on an Asus P4T533-C (i850E chipset) with the stock heatsink/fan/thermal pad. At default voltage, it overclocks to 2.85GHz (19x150), which is the maximum that the motherboard allows. From what I hear (word of mouth), the 2.53GHz chips overclock quite well. :)

For more information about how a 2.53GHz processor performs at stock speed and when overclocked, check this thread out. Hope that helps!

All of you who are using a i845g board for overclocking, do you disable the onboard graphics or whhaaat? supposedly this board is better overclocking than a i845e board...hmm... cause i dont need the onboard graphics and the sis648 isnt looking like to great of an overclocker....

help me out pleeeaase... im going to school on thursday and i need to order my parts very soon after i get there....

They're still selling 2.533Ghz P4 for $860 in here, not the best price/performance offering I've seen (can get 2 AthlonMP 2000+ and Tyan dual socket A mobo for that money). BTW, Thermaltake Volcano 7 is really a damn crappy and pointless cooler ;)

I ordered one today. I will let you know what the "pack date" is if you let ME know what the hell a "pack date" is. :p

This is what I got:

1 x (80648) Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Processor (Northwood) 2.53GHz
533FSB @ $248.00

1 x (240614) Gigabyte GA-8iEXP i845E P4 (533MHz FSB) Skt478 DDR ATX
MB @ $139.50

2 x (80097) Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512MB PC3200 400Mhz 64Mx64 184
DIMM @ $186.00

Shipped for $3.50 (2nd day Fed Ex!)

I've never built a machine like this and I'm interested in OCing it a little.

I have a GeF4 Ti4400 already to put in.

Any suggestions? Tips?
