Last update: 8/2

25 off coupon has expired? Some people are still able to use the 25 off 200 coupon, and there's word that there is one that expires in the end of August. So I'll keep this up here for now.

238.23 - 25 = 213.23
213.23 - 10% = $191.91 with free shipping, retail boxed.

Most are cB0s. So far, people have gotten cB0s from PA, Dallas, Fremont and Newark (CA) warehouses. I think there are more showing up out there since the older architecture is gradually getting phased out. I had no trouble switching my delivery warehouse, but I have heard some people have. Good luck!

WAREHOUSE UPDATE (8/2)
I collected these from the thread, keep us posted if you get one from a different warehouse that is or isn't cb0.

The good:

Sacramento, CA
PA
IL <one bad so far
Newark, CA
Fremont, CA
Miami, FL
Millington, TN
Oakhaven, TN

The bad:

Anaheim, CA <recent ones have been good. old architecture may have been phased out
Fullerton, CA <some good, some bad

can someone email me some of the 25 off 200 codes? I used 2 of them on ordering the 650s which are still back ordered and so I am unable to reuse them now, and others I found are expired:( Arr!

Ok, I tried to resist... I'm getting the CPU and an MSI master for 224.05 after $25 coupon, plus the 10% pointclick for a grand total of $201.65 shipped. I'm in the midwest, so I think I have a decent shot at the PA warehouse and a cbo stepping ship. If I don't get a cbo, I'll either bay it unopened or ship it back. Just waiting for 7AM for Onvia to show up on Pointclick so I can place the order... I'm going to run this on my old BH6. It will do what it will do (hopefully not catch on fire). :p I am hoping for 933 with my old board, and 256MB of PC100/125 -8E Micron generic RAM. I have tested the RAM at 2X133=266 stable for hours with an old unlocked PII 233 that I have laying around, so it should theoretically work. I have a PCI video card in there, so the grossly overclocked AGP slot should not be a problem. Crossing fingers, and hoping I don't have to also shell out more $$$ for a new BX board. (Yes, my C366s at 567 are fast enough, but I need a new toy).

pyr - call Onvia and cancel your backordered 650 and have them credit the $25 coupon to the new purchase. They have done this in the past for many people.
Good luck

I have gotten 4 cb0s from the IL warehouse. I'm in minneapolis.

Also, I bought them when they were more expensive, can I get the 30 day price switch thing?

It seems like the ONLY warehouse still shipping the old parts is Fullerton, if they won't let you pick the exact warehouse to ship from then at least ask for any warehouse besides Fullerton, if you get a csr that won't budge then ask for a supervisor since it is not that hard for them to direct your order to a certain warehouse (done twice for me)...

btw you are not always guaranteed 933+ even from a cb0, I just got a week 20 from the PA warehouse that refuses to post past 130MHZ (runs fine at 1.65V 130MHZ) no matter what I try.

Yep tried it all the way to 1.90v, switched slotkets, tried the pc133 siemens in different slots, two different heatsinks, nothing worked! Dud...

at 910Mhz (1.65V) 100% load it was runing 65C+ with an alpha heatsink! hot hot hot!!! Looking at the database over at overclockers.com there seesm to be a few SL45Y duds out there.

I just called Onvia.com. Explained to them about the price drop and inquired if there was anything they could do for me since I already had the chip. They credited my account almost $30. That is so cool. Onvia.com is on the top of my list.

dkcs, how long have you had that cpu running? I suggest burning it in. I got the same cpu yesterday (week 20, SL45Y, runs at 60+ C on full load), and at 933, it simply would not post at any voltage.

I knocked it down to 868, and ran it for a few hours...then I restarted and guess what? It posted and booted into windows, and was very stable. Could run distributed.net and several benchmarks including cpumark and sandra.

However, once I turned off the power and back on again, it won't post at 933 anymore. I then decided to drop the speed back down and burn it in overnight doing ogr and rc5.

It's morning now, I'm gonna go test it out right now....wish me luck.

Dang it...it's a no go at 933 during a power-on bootup. :(

However, it works when I do a restart and enter the bios. Well, I'm running at 868 1.65v for now...I guess I should be happy. Damn week 20's....

Could I run the PIII 700 at 133 X 7 =931 on my old trusty ABit BH6? (with a slocket of course). Is anyone doing this? I would love the double the speed of my system without doing a major upgrade. It currently runs a PIII 450 at 4.5 X 133 so i know the components can handle 133 FSB.

Input greatly appreciated.

Help me out here, what is cBO and what does it mean and where do I look to know that is what I purchased? I was thinking of buying a PIII600E. What is the designation for the 700 (cbO)

Question on the MSI SlotKet ..... does it have the SLOT1 "frame" around the card like the Abit or Iwill do to hold it into the Slot1 slot. By "frame" I mean that the Slotket card sits into a plastic frame which surrounds the Slotket card then drops into the motherboard exactly as if it was a slot 1 CPU. Some of the cheap ones just use 2 plastic clips that fit on top of the card and hold it to the Slot1 retainers. The MSI website photo doesn't show it well.

I've been so tempted to jump on this deal. Should I do it or should I wait until it Intel can hit around 1.2 gigahertz or somthing. Right now I'm at 750 mhz and my system so danm stable I wonder how stable it is or people running at 900 Mhz or over.

techblast: cb0 is the stepping revision of the chip, every so often Intel updates a processor to fix bugs and make improvements to the chips design. These stepping updates sometimes allow the processors to overclock more/easier. ca2 was the first stepping, cb0 is the current stepping and cc0 will be the next stepping (late, late summer). If you are going to buy one now and want to overclock it then make sure to get a cb0 stepping chip. Take a look at this article: http://www.overclockers.com/articles161/index02.asp

kyl1222: I did try to burn the chip in but it seems to only have made it worse since it is now unstable at 910MHZ also. Maybe the P3V4X I'm using has something to do with it...

mistered: yes, my msi6905 master did

dkcs: i read that your motherboard needs a heatsink on the frequency generator chip (not sure what the exact name is, but the chip that generates the different FSB.)

dkcs,

Thanks for the info. Just came home with an MSI BX Master Mobo. Will look into some of the deals on the Web for other parts. The Mobo was well priced at $119.00 at Fry's. Also installed my Network in a Box. Uses the phone lines instead of the RJ-45 Lan line. Can't tell any difference between my Server and client computer on this Peer to Peer setup. It runs at 10mbps. I have @home and both systems are fast. Reading up on some games. Time to have fun with the kids.
