P180 IDE cabling problem

I have my HDDs in the lower cage for noise and sound reasons, not to mention that I don't have a fan at hand to place in the upper cage so basically, I can't get the IDE cable to reach. I don't know who designed IDE cables because in every case I've done, the distance between the master (hard drive) and the slave (DVD-ROM drive) is longer than the distance between the slave and the motherboard, yet the cable insists on having a long distance between the slave and motherboard. Anyone know if they sell cables that have the reverse distance? My current cable is 24".

Look for some rounded IDE cables-

They are usually longer and come in more sizes than your standard flat IDE. I got a really long round IDE cable off of TigerDirect.com. Its the same length between the mobo and the master/slave drives. It has come in handy in 2 of my older systems

hope this helps

Mine is already a 24" rounded IDE cable, it's hard to tell which IDE cables are have what length from the pictures because the descriptions of IDE cables are so bad on every site.

neutralizer:

On my last 2 systems I've used Promise IDE controller cards for my 2 HDDs and the motherboard IDE connectors for my 2 disc drives.
Each of the 4 drives has a channel to itself and no slaves.
A similar approach in your system may mean everything should "reach".

Happy trailz,

Happy trailz,

Damn that's the only solution 🙁.

I guess it's time to start phasing out my PATA drives for SATA. *sigh*

Can't believe no one has any innovative cabling techniques for the P180 for this.

Send the case to me and use a cardboard box 🙂

Seriously, either get longer cables (max recommended is 18" but 36" work fine for me) or get a PCI card to plug the drives into..
