Seems like a pretty bad idea considering those things are starchy and high on calories for soldiers with high metabolisms operating in the field. For sedate civilians it would only worsen the obesity epidemic and raise the costs of healthcare to taxpayers. Though certainly I can appreciate the need for shaming the poor. That'll teach em'.

Somewhere along the line the contract specs for MREs were loosened so today's MRE's are way worse than those made ten-fifteen years ago. The trick is to get the halal or kosher MREs. They have a lot less crap in them but they cost more than the low bid MREs.
