Wearing a hat indoors is a truly strange affectation....
Hats aren't purely utilitarian. People also wear hats for style, as evidenced by backwards ball caps being a thing in the early '90s. It's part of their outfit. Do they suddenly not care about style indoors?

I've always thought it was strange that people cared about hats indoors. Granted, the "cowboy look" is kind of a ridiculous style.

Also, hats hide messy hair and mess up groomed hair. Removing your hat in close quarters for no reason can make you look messy for no reason.

Heh, my thoughts exactly. It's one of those meaningless things that still pisses me off even though it shouldn't.
My dad was a stickler for it. He did not like seeing a cap/hat on in the house. I just kinda accepted it as correct behaviour, or better yet, appropriate, respectful behaviour.

Yeah, my entire family was military and I tried to join four times. I was raised by my grandfather who was an Army drill instructor in the 50s. I still say sir and ma'am, hold doors open for people, and all of that old fashioned stuff (you know, sans the racism and what not)

I'm sorry to hear you weren't able to join. What did they dock you for those four times if you don't mind me asking?
