so what my Brazilian comrade tells me today, is that what happened to many of those busloads of prisoners, is that while all of the Bolsanistas had their own charter coaches ready to go that brought them into Brasilia and out again, for their event, the police managed to convince them to get on their police buses (they had gotten into the Congress building, you see, and needed an escort behind fortified police lines to get their getaway wagons, you see) and they would be brought back to their chartered Bolsonarista coaches. And so about 5 or 6 busloads, at least 500 or more of them, I think in that one go, got on the police buses that took them straight to various police headquarters for booking, lol.

Exactly as happened with "political correctness". Hopefully that's the first step towards the word losing all meaning and being dropped. Unfortunately they'll just find a new bogeyman (can the liberal/left learn from experience and not give them one this time? Make them at least invent their own word - they could do with the practice at thinking).

Plus some movies have been available on streaming same day or very close to release.

Sports attendance is down as well. You can sit at home, watch in HD, not pay 100s of $$$, go to the bathroom whenever you like. It's a fucking no brainer.

True, but I'm sure that with regard to the 'last 4 years' the pandemic is the overwhelming factor. Nobody wants to go sit with a lot of coughing strangers in a confined space (even if cinemas were allowed to open at all), hence the streaming companies benefited hugely from the pandemic, along with all the home-delivery companies.

That said, I do think that _some_ of the complaints about movie-makers being obsessed with having a 'progressive' political subtext are not without merit, even if the complaints are coming from people with a political agenda of their own. Sometimes the emphasis on the political implications comes at the expense of decent story-telling, and seems very cynical and overly-calculated. Some of the youtube videos I've seen disparaging recent movie-franchise products made some entirely valid points (e.g. that "Critical Drinker" guy).

However, most of the product that attracts the greatest criticism seems to be things that were never exactly 'high art' in the first place. Attacking, say, later Star Wars movies, for not following traditional rules for good story-telling, seems a bit like using an NLAW to crack open a coconut.
