Nvidia needs DX to succeed so they can sell hardware

No they don't. Their cards are all OpenGL compatible. Microsoft is the only one who needs DirectX to succeed because it's what they use to sell OSes. Everyone else likes DirectX because they get to use the result of Microsoft's money, talent, and leadership, meaning they neither have to use the "designed by committee" OpenGL nor write their own proprietary APIs, each hoping the market grants them sufficient demand for theirs to become the de facto standard.

Microsoft provides an ecosystem and they have a profit motive to make it the best possible and no motive to be anything other than vendor agnostic. Nvidia, AMD, and Intel all reap the rewards.

You make it sound like the gaming industry (hardware/software/consumers) should all be thankful to MSFT.

Well, last year AMD said that MSFT wasn't working on DX12.

Taylor: We will also tie up in future games bundle with top games. We believe this is the right way. But also for the industry, it is an important sign. Because the computer industry has benefited for many years from a continuous renewal of the DirectX interface. A new DirectX has again and again refreshed the industry, new graphics cards need more processors and more RAM. But there is no DirectX 12 come. That's it. As far as we know there are no plans for DirectX 12 If this is not correct and someone wants to correct me - wonderful. But now we need some truly excellent games like Bioshock Infinite or Crysis 3, on the one hand to stimulate the industry and also to reward our buyers. Therefore, Never Settle is strategically very important for us and will continue to include top titles.

Microsoft, nVidia and Intel disagrees with the AMD PR spin. And AMD is the company around with the absolute least credibility.

Just because you hate them, it doesn't make them less credible. AMD came up with a great idea, a great concept that's all. DX12 is very Mantle like in it's foundations, deal with it.

You have to ask yourself what would he have to gain by lying about something like that. Especially if as you say there were plenty of people who could have simply called him on it. Which, when he said it, nobody did. Don't forget that we also have Oxide saying the same thing, "Before Mantle there was no knowledge of DX12".
