Are you serious? Is it even worse as it passes?

I was given the strainer. I hope my co-workers don't find me dead in the bathroom with my pants down to my ankles holding a strainer in my hands.

I'm 35 btw. No family history of problems. The doctor said its most common in the 20-40s. He sees a ton of them each week.

See the tips and how they are worn/broken off?

Let's just say that your internal organs are a rock tumbler for kidney stones ;)

OMG! Is that really how they look? There must be a God! And he's EVIL!

OMG! I thought it was just a piece of sand. That thing looks like a mine or some alien torture device.

It could look like this too

Depends on what kind it is. That's why they gave you a strainer, so they can do tests on it.

when you pass it, make sure you do it at a circus. and time it so that it happens when there is someone walking the tight rope too.

I am cringing at my desk at the thought. I've heard that these are the most excruciating pain a man can experience, and comparable to child birth.

My wife drove me to the hospital. We were comparing our pain stories afterwards. For her, she had our kids in record time. The labor for our first baby was one hour and 15 minutes for our second. I was in pain for 4 hours so I won.

Just thought I'd post some facts, since I've seen a few "facts" posted that were off (all of this from our friend, Mr WebMD):

- Most common stones are formed of calcium with either oxolate or phosphate (all natural dietary needs).
- Infection stones can be caused by a UTI
- Occur most frequently in caucasian males
- Prevelance of stones rises in men greatly at age 40 and continues upward until 70. For women, it peaks in their 50s.
- Once you get more than one stone, more are likely to develop.
- No real known causes, other than family history seems to play some role

Prevention methods:

Limit your intake of oxolate rich foods/drinks (coffee, tea, cola, wheat bran, nuts, strawberries, chocolate)
Drink enough liquid (water is best) to produce at least 2 quarts of urine a day

I had one years ago, about the size of my pinky fingernail. They wanted to go in and get it, and leave some kind of stint in there for a couple of days, with a string hanging out of my wang so they could pull it out. NO WAY! So, I kept it for 6 months, went through about 40 bottles of pain pills. Eventually I had lithotripsy, boy was THAT fun. I pissed blood for about 3 days.

Mine was from being out in the Outback of Australia, and not drinking enough water. It's so dry out there you don't feel the heat, and I got dehydrated too many times. DRINK LOTS OF WATER! If you have one of these kidney stones, you will know what real pain is.

Oh yeah, the pain you feel isn't generally from the stone, it's from your kidney swelling up because the stone is blocking the fluids from getting through. The more it swells, the worse it hurts. Have someone punch you hard in the kidney area about 20 times, as hard as they can, that will give you an idea of the pain.

That coffee thing might be it. I never really drank coffee until the last year when working so hard forced me to stay alert. I'm going to have to cut it out.

Do you drink sweet tea? One of our managers here is a sweet tea fanatic. He got a stone, and nearly passed out from the pain at a client site. One of his buddies drove him to the hospital, to which on the way he was vomitting out the window from the pain. :(

Think about the worst stomach cramps (diarrhea) and multiply that by 200. Then to boot, it can last for a LONG time.
