wow, Skoorb is the only one who hit the nail on the head....
the types of eating described are NOT a race issue, but a socioeconomic issue....
Lower class people tend to be more obese... food is more of a luxury, and eating is more of a social event. It just happens that a large portion of the black population are in that population. Thus, Lord Jezo's comment is not that far off from the truth, but was phrased in a racist manner.

Rich people: let's play golf together this afternoon or hang out by our inground pool sipping on martinis
Poor people: let's have a bbq
Geeks: Let's have a LAN party and eat pizza
It's not because they are black, it's because of their socioeconomic status... Makes since. So it's not only poor blacks that enjoy eating more than the Middle class whites but also poor White, Hispanic etc..

Still I think that among todays youth that whites are more obese than their black counterparts irregardless of their socioeconomic status.

A perfect example
Irregardless??? I thought they'd killed that obscenity off long ago.
DOH!! Edited🙂

And how does having a poor 7-year-old being fed 7 pancakes by her mother protest anything against armchair sex people? She's being fed a disgusting amount of food that is BAD for her by her mother. That is SICK.

The average 7 yr old burns a ton of calories, what's "disgusting" here is that a group of geeks who think that they know more than everybody else sitting in judgement of a child they don't even know. What's even more digusting is the prejudical, racist overtones this thread is taking.

While I usually agree with your levelheaded posts Geekbabe, I do disagree here (on the first part of your objection, not the racist part.. I agree there).

People today don't feed their children properly. Is it their parents fault? Is it the fast food industries fault? Is it the "5 minute meal" phenomenon we are seeing more and more today? Who knows... but what I do know is that people don't eat nuturious foods anymore. If you don't eat right, you most likely don't feed your kids a good diet either. Of course, I'm generalizing a little there, but for the most parts it's true.

After losing all the weight I have in the last few months, I have become increasingly conscienous of the crap that corporations push onto parents and children. 7 pancakes with syrup (I'm assuming, though I maybe wrong) with a bowl of cereal is overboard for a 7 year olds body. I'll even say it's overboard for a 21year olds body. No matter if they have a strong/fast metobolism or not. Sometimes it's not what you eat, it's how much you eat. Other times, it's not how much you eat, it's what you eat. In this case, IMO, it's both.

In any case, take a look around... fat kids are everywhere. It's an scary scary trend... I don't mean scary because they aren't traditionally thin as seen in fashion mags, I mean in a health sense. Being fat isn't healthy... matter of fact, it's downright unsafe at that age. Fat kids develope all kind of health problems that are associated with being overweight such as ashama, diabetes, high blood pressure, and the list goes on.

I was a fat kid and started dieting at the age of 9.... I went to my first dietition at 11years of age. The whole time my parents were silently sabotaging my chances by serving up high fat, high carb, high sodium, foods that provided little actually nutrition. They piled my plate high and encouraged me to go back for seconds... and thirds.... that same is happening with more and more parents today.

I can't say, that I know everything or know each person circumstances, but I can say that in the last few months I've done some hard thinking about what is wrong with the food industry today. A lot is wrong with it.... no amount of frivalous lawsuits or ignorant children are going to fix it. It starts with parents feeding their young children to teach them what to eat and what not to eat. That is the plain and simple truth.

i personally dont mind anyone eating too much and getting fat. if they get real fat and everything, dont complain, because its your own choice for eating too much, or your parent's for forcing you to.
i hate it when i see all these fat@$$ kids in school blame mcdonalds, blame their genetics or whatnot becuase they are fat. well, do something about it.
now if you were born with a broken leg. then i can understand. dont get all pissy because you made the decision to get porky.
so for the girl eating 7 pancakes, thats good for her. as long as she isnt fat, and if she is, then as long as she doesnt blame her parents. then its all cool.

btw, getting fat isnt easy. i personally am in very good shape now, but i used to not watch what i eat, eat whatever i want, sure i exercised, but i wasnt trying to get in shape or anything. i never got chubby or anything. its weird. some people i know eat so much candy, have high blood pressure and are skinny as heck. (what the????)

It wasn't easy for YOU to gain weight. I gained weight very easily because my body was in starvation mode most of my childhood because I was very inactive. Didn't matter if it ate a lot or little, I gained weight because my body was storing all food intake as fat. I've had to work my ass off to loose 78lbs.... it wasn't easy and it didn't just fall once I started eating less. You make this problem out to be easier and more clear cut than it is...

As for you saying it's ok for a 7 year to eat like that... and if she's fat she shouldn't blame her parents. Hogwash, as 7, 8, 9, 10, or even later for some children, you depend on your parents for nutrional advice and mentoring. They can't decide at age 7 "Mom, you do realize that this Chili mac is ver high and saturated fat, calories, and sodium, right? I'd really prefer is we ate something better for us, like say... a chef salad. I heard Sally at school saying she was starting a high protein/low carb diet when we were playing with our barbies." PURE BS... kids can't decide what is good for them at that age. That is adults are supposed to do...
