Why? I would think the propspect of appearing "hot" to the vast majority of armchair iron wristed sexual warrior wanna be's around here would scare the average person straight into a box of devil dogs.
And how does having a poor 7-year-old being fed 7 pancakes by her mother protest anything against armchair sex people? She's being fed a disgusting amount of food that is BAD for her by her mother. That is SICK.
The average 7 yr old burns a ton of calories, what's "disgusting" here is that a group of geeks who think that they know more than everybody else sitting in judgement of a child they don't even know. What's even more digusting is the prejudical, racist overtones this thread is taking.
While I usually agree with your levelheaded posts Geekbabe, I do disagree here (on the first part of your objection, not the racist part.. I agree there).
People today don't feed their children properly. Is it their parents fault? Is it the fast food industries fault? Is it the "5 minute meal" phenomenon we are seeing more and more today? Who knows... but what I do know is that people don't eat nuturious foods anymore. If you don't eat right, you most likely don't feed your kids a good diet either. Of course, I'm generalizing a little there, but for the most parts it's true.
After losing all the weight I have in the last few months, I have become increasingly conscienous of the crap that corporations push onto parents and children. 7 pancakes with syrup (I'm assuming, though I maybe wrong) with a bowl of cereal is overboard for a 7 year olds body. I'll even say it's overboard for a 21year olds body. No matter if they have a strong/fast metobolism or not. Sometimes it's not what you eat, it's how much you eat. Other times, it's not how much you eat, it's what you eat. In this case, IMO, it's both.
In any case, take a look around... fat kids are everywhere. It's an scary scary trend... I don't mean scary because they aren't traditionally thin as seen in fashion mags, I mean in a health sense. Being fat isn't healthy... matter of fact, it's downright unsafe at that age. Fat kids develope all kind of health problems that are associated with being overweight such as ashama, diabetes, high blood pressure, and the list goes on.
I was a fat kid and started dieting at the age of 9.... I went to my first dietition at 11years of age. The whole time my parents were silently sabotaging my chances by serving up high fat, high carb, high sodium, foods that provided little actually nutrition. They piled my plate high and encouraged me to go back for seconds... and thirds.... that same is happening with more and more parents today.
I can't say, that I know everything or know each person circumstances, but I can say that in the last few months I've done some hard thinking about what is wrong with the food industry today. A lot is wrong with it.... no amount of frivalous lawsuits or ignorant children are going to fix it. It starts with parents feeding their young children to teach them what to eat and what not to eat. That is the plain and simple truth.
